I have been having trouble getting these clearos to wick properly (and that's quite aside from the two with spinning pins that pull the wicks back inside them) www.fasttech.com/products/1360400The original wicks in them are too thin and just flood, so I did a couple with cotton wool (not bad, worked ok) but wanted to use something better, so I wicked one up with 2mm ekowool (flamed it with a lighter first, .2 a1 kanthal, 2.4 ?). Now I get one or two hits and then burning wick taste after a couple of draws. Was using it for an hour or two last night, and it's not even gone down .5 of a ml. I yanked the flavour wicks off on the cotton wool one I did, and it worked a lot better, I'm thinking maybe I need to cut the silicon round the wicks a bit as it might be too tight, never done this before, and bit wary of it. On an unrelated note, a lot of my clearos are now reading 9.9 (default) on the vamo, but firing ok on an ego. This is also confusing me a bit. Are my firing pins too short for the vamo? Is the vamo slightly compromised here by not having a higher contact? Any help much appreciated.

sounds like the ekowool is too thick for the clearos and it can't wick the juice through the holes properly. You vamo sounds like the pin is pushing down and maybe the seal/insulator is going, you can use a pin or something to pull it back up a bit.

Sure I read somewhere that the ekowool is hollow, I never got a clean enough cut on mine without the ends fraying to be able to tell, so maybe your strangling or compressing the wick somehow. I mainly use it on a killer & I can slide the wick about in the coil & never had any problems. +1 what Mev said re the vamo.

Flame the ekowool first until white hot, you will get clean cut and a lot less fraying

Pulled the pin up on the Vamo, obvious really, I think I expected not to have to do that with it (cos I'm always doing it with my egos, so I should have thought of that). All fine. And the ekowooled Evod on it is fine. I made the ekowool wick with a paperclip jammed in the middle of it, so I thought it would be unstrangleable. Perhaps not. I think the clearos might have smaller gaps than usual, which is a pain. Also, can you get the stuff white hot with a normal fag lighter? Or do I need something a bit scarier?

I don't think you need to resort to a flame thrower myself.

Will a halogen hob do!? I'd think you'll have to be very, very patient if you do try that Andy.

And, although they estimated it'd take a month to ship from Hong Kong, it actually turned up inside a week.

+2 for this one. Got mine from Fasttech for less than £3 delivered, it is easier to use than a chefs torch, in fact my chefs torch has become redundant for vaping work......only used now for Crème brûlée

90% of problems with Ekowool is that people tie the wick too tight and strangle it. It is hollow and actually expands slightly when wet.
I use it for all my wicks except the Kanger range (bottom feeders) If you can scrounge some, try some 2.5mm silica. Fits the Kangers perfectly and probably the T4's and negates the need for flavour wicks.
If you cant get any, PM me and I will pop you some in the post to try.
