You can get Kanthal from a German seller on eBay, or nichrome from the place you mentioned - wires.co.uk. Kanthal has a higher resistance than nichrome. I started out with 0.16 Kanthal, and now use the equivalent resistance nichrome wire, which is 0.13. With this wire, you'll be able to make a coil anywhere you like between 1.5 and 3 ohms - each turn of the coil is about 0.4 ohm. Thicker wire is better for low resistance coils, as you need to use more turns, so you have more surface area to vaporise the juice. You get the group buy wick here: groupbuy.vapezones.co.uk/repairable-atomiser-wickIf you run out before the group buy stuff arrives, PM Tim (rawveg) and he will help you out. Blakey will be back to post a link to the CE2 supplier. I supply a metre of wick and wire, which is enough to make 12 or 13 wicks. They last a week or more, so there's no rush to get more supplies.

Thanks for that clockworks, very helpful. I didn't realise the lengths of wick and wire were included - they will keep me going for a while - as long as I don't cock too many up! I will take a bit of time to ponder what to get. I am not at the moment a member of UK vapers - do I need to join them to participate in the group buy or is being a member of this forum sufficient?

I don't think that you have to be a member, but you should think about joining anyway. It's a totally different forum to this one. Plenty of good advice, but it doesn't have the friendly feel of this place. More opinionated and technical, but well moderated, so it doesn't get out of hand.
Cheers Steve

Excellent news, and great to have more confirmation that washing/burning really works.

If you run out before the group buy stuff arrives, PM Tim (rawveg) and he will help you out. Blakey will be back to post a link to the CE2 supplier. The CE2 wick came from e-cigz.co.uk but I've checked and they're out of stock, Ian probably cleaned them out the bulli wick came from www.bulli-smoker.com/zubehoer2/zubehoer/index.html . Clockworks link to the group buy wick will get you a good supply of the wick that comes packed with your RTA so it's worth waiting till you get the unit and seeing if you're happy with this wick before buying in anything else.

Thanks for this info blakey - I decided to go with the group buy stuff - a few metres at that price won't break the bank if I don't like it!

Well, this sounds like an age ago! Just thought I would add my (very inexpert!) thoughts on this now I've got one as all the above technical discussion might deter the less experienced from trying one of these wonderful devices. There is still a fair waiting list on these, which in itself tells you a lot, but you can still sign up (via pm) with clockworks to get one - if you look on UKV you will see there are also some new finishes available on them. I got mine just before Christmas, as he promised. What with the festivities and my apprehension about making my own coil and wick it was a week before I had a go. You can find the instructions on how to do it here: ukvapers.com/topic/9253-clockworks-rta-and-rda-fitting-a-wick/My first attempt, using clockworks method, took me a long time and in the end it worked OK but I felt it could be even better. I tried again using the method that rawveg describes in post #4. I found this much easier and for me it has worked brilliantly. Terrific flavour, hit and vapour every time. It is beautifully made and the wick and wire that comes with it will last me a long time. With the extra I am getting I confidently expect to be handing this down to my grandchildren It is great to think that with this and a battery you don't actually ever have to get anything else but juice!

Great aren't they dave! I noticed on that link that people were making an extra length of wick to rest across the top of the coil, It's an excellent thing to do, I've been doing it for a little while now and should have posted my findings on here I've been using CE2 wick for the main coil and bulli wick for the extra layer that I run into the third hole after integrating it into the coil . It works a treat- I'm using .2 wire and 6 turns for a 2ohm coil and I'm putting 4.4v through it with zero wicking issues

Out of the RTA and RDA my favourite by a mile is the RDA.Using both Bulli and clearomiser wick and either 0.20 or 0.16 kanthal wire gives me faultless results.Ive had alot of rebuildables and the only one ive kept is the RDA because it simply works every time with a massive throat hit and never a wicking issue. All i need now is for Clockworks to make me an i-atty 2 clone and i will be happy

All i need now is for Clockworks to make me an i-atty 2 clone and i will be happy I'll second that Ian. I've also got Clockworks RDA, brilliant wee thing, the number of times I'm able to just rinse it out and use again, is incredible . . . especially if you have a coil making phobia, like myself.

You are so rite Perpy.Using the CE2 wick i can just clean the tank out quickly under a warm tap and then dry burn the wick and its as good as new.Coil ive got fitted now has lasted two months already and is still as good as day one.

Me too Ian . . . dare I admit, I've never made a coil since I bought it, as the one that Clockworks fitted just keeps going after a quick rinse out.

Having re-read all the RDA/ RTA stuff in the light of actually having one, I must admit I am tempted to get an RDA as well (especially with the new black anodised brushed and polished finish!). Be good to have something as good as this that takes 1/2 ml of juice - I am still finding direct dripping a bit hit and miss.
I've seen the idea of just laying a third strand on the coil Blakey - I'll have a go at that I think. I must say though that just the two strands has seen me through a couple of tankfuls with very few problems.

Well I tried laying the extra wick on the coil and down the third hole but I didn't find it made much difference and eventually I abandoned it because it seemed to be having a negative effect. I'm back to just the two strands again and it works better for me.
I don't know if I did the third strand correctly and also my original two strands are probably a bit too long - so maybe you can have too much wick in the tank?
Any way simple is working great for me so will probably stick to that. The only minor niggle I would have is that it is a bit on the airy side for me. Anyone got any ideas on how I could tighten up the draw a bit?
