So much for me getting excited! Had it going for all of half an hour and noticed bottom end was very hot. Took the battery out and stuck my finger down to the spring ..... ouchies! It was in 18650 mode

What batteries are you using Spikey . . . and what are you using on top with it? I'll still be clueless, but it would give the knowledgeable technical ones a little more info to compute.

The grey ones from FT! had a Mini nova on top. Its the bottom got really hot where the vent is. I shall try a better battery tomorrow and see if that resolves it

What colour is your spring @spikeyfridge, you can hook it out with a screwdriver or bent coathanger etc.
As it's at the bottom it sounds like high resistance in that area.

The spring is the problem as raid says, I have no idea why these people fit cheap springs in their devices.
What happens is - if there is any resistance in the spring then it works like a coil and heats up when current goes through it

Personally, I run my bolts sin spring...at my own risk. You might have better luck with this versus stock. Have fun I Only "snug" the atty on bolts.. I tend to push the button as I am twisting a device on.. when it fires, I turn another 1/8 or 1/4 turn and leave it.
