What all the cool kids are smoking!

Funny conversation I heard between 2 stallholders while browsing the market on my lunch break:

Man 1 - "What's that she's got"
Man 2 - "It's one of them e-cigs. It's what the cool kids are smoking these days"
1 - "Really?"
2 - "Yeah, they can smoke them indoors at gigs so they're not standing around outside. And they don't smell of fags so their parents don't know"
1 - "Crazy kids nowadays, what will they think up next?"

So I went and said hi to them and they were asking me to blow vape at them so they could smell that it didn't smell of stinkies and they were asking me if it was safer than cigs, and where you buy the kits, and they were fascinated that the juice comes in so many different flavours. Neither smoked but both knew people who were lifelong smokers and had tried everything to stop, so they're going to spread the word about vaping!

I didn't know vaping was "cool", I've only ever seen one other person doing it, I mustn't move in the right circles!

And I'm quite flattered to be taken for "one of the cool kids" as I'm 32 and was dressed in a suit for work!

This is one of the arguments being used by the 'enemy', saying that it will encourage the youngsters to start on ecigs, as it's perceived by some to be 'cool' and 'new', and then graduate to the 'nasties'.

As I think most of us on here would agree, it's the complete opposite. Who, in their right mind, would take ten steps backward and try fags after a nice 'strawberry cheesecake' (or whatever) vape. I don't think the youngsters are that stupid.

This is one of the main weapons that the fascists in power are going to use to regulate the sale of eliquid through licensed outlets ie: chemists on prescription!

As far as I can tell, the only kids using e-cigs are the ones that have already started smoking anyway ???

But, I guess the anti's will still use that against vaping

Which has got to be a good thing. Kids (I remember when!) will always try something rebellious, and I'd rather they had an ecig in the school bike shed than the untipped Woodbines I used to smoke at school.

Yes, the conversation was funny but sad all at the same time. We can only hope the young'uns who are taking up vaping were already smokers, or those "at risk" of starting due to peer pressure or wanting to fit in by themselves. Sadly smoking does still have some cool factor among some groups, so if vaping overtakes cigs, that's got to be a better situation, not ideal but better than taking up tobacco in your teens?

I currently deliver to well over 200 shops around north and west yorkshire, the conversations I have had with the 15 - 20 shops which sell ecigs (mostly cig a likes) are that the main sale of real cigs is young adults because smoking is cool whereas vaping is not since it's not 'hard core'.
The mass of vapers are anywhere between 25 - 70 years old, people who used to smoke who don't want to kill themselves and no longer need to look or act cool.

That is the same story every shop is telling me.

Cig sales are down because they are too expensive or people have switched to ecigs and it's mainly younger folk who buy tobacco products.

That's not any fault of ecigs. I'm sure that teenagers have been a large part of the tobacco market for years, it's only now that people who have grown older and wiser and have been given a way out of smoking that shop keepers have noticed who is still buying tobacco products.


I don't know if anyone has noticed but in the last year or so, nearly every tobacco product has undergone a redesigned packet (even cig papers) and nearly all of the big brand cigs have a 'cool' 2 in 1 cig which you squeeze until it pops and then it's menthol. All things which teenagers think are cool... sliding packets, branded filters,all have only recently been launched in order to appeal to a new generation of smokers.

I started vaping at 21. Not cos it was cool , but because I guy in work let me try his. Enjoyed the taste far better . Better throat hit nicer taste and smell . To hell with what other people say about it!

And surely if they were taking up smoking to be cool and rebellious, they'd want their parents to know and be cheesed off about it, otherwise what's the point?

I passed one of the elites stands in a shopping mall yesterday and I'm sure the 3 sales'men's total ages combined was less than mine, Sigh!
