Thanks for the suggestions ... I can't wait another 2.5 weeks for the slow boat ... And the Vamo feels just too big with the large battery config so I've ordered these from e-bay ..... Hope they will work !!....I really should've checked here first.... £7,50...... Have them in 2 days .... Pleaseeee work !!

Did you order them from Torchy on ebay spikus ? I've not heard of that make but Torchy does decent batteries or buy unprotected Efests or AWs. It really isn't worth buying unknown cheap batteries

I laughed. Problems with getting cheap batteries, looking for advice, then going and buying more cheap batteries.
Anyway, I have no problem using my protected Panasonics (3600mah) in my Vamo. But I do find the don't last twice as long as my 1200mah 18350's never mind 3 times as long. Plus, 18350 mode is nicer to hold, so take it out all day like that, and change to either 18650 mode, swap 18350's or use my SID

I may be wrong but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the protection chip on the bottom of a protected battery can be easily prised off and the excess battery plastic trimmed off to essentially yield a non protected battery. Perhaps one of the resident techie genies such as raid2506 could clarify is this is possible / safe?

Thanks @freefromsmoking, but why do I always get fingered with the ones that can kill people? I absolutely cannot advocate interfering with the integrity of a battery in any way.
Doing so can lead to fire and/or explosion, damage to property and serious risk of injury to those concerned.
Having said that, yes you can slit the plastic wrapper and the circuit releases from the bottom. Snip the return strap on the side and you have an unprotected battery.
Some batteries also have an additional cap on the top which may be removed in a similar manner to further reduce length.Allegedly
