I tried someone elses e-cig at a christening. It was one of the older atomiser/cartridge systems, but I instantly knew that this would work for me. I wasted some dosh making a load of newbie mistakes (I had never used forums before, so I was vaping for a while before I discovered them) Since I started vaping, despite some disasters I must have smoked less than a packet of cigs in total, and none of them for months now. Hubby got caught up in the wave of my enthusiasm, and also quit ... almost, then slipped backwards for ages to 50/50 vaping/smoking. It worked for me because 1. I already wanted to quit. 2. I was more than willing to experiment and change things around until I found what really worked for me. Hubby wasn't desperate to quit, and he wanted a pipe. We got him a Chinese thing with cartos in, it kept breaking and drove me up the wall. Then I got him a mechanical one someone had made, and he loves it. Problem is he won't use anything else .... discovered recently that the button was broken on it, so it was only firing intermittently. This explains why he lapsed, and I wish I had figured it out quicker. Button is now fixed and 3 nights ago he dropped and broke his iPad going outside for a cig. He hasn't had a cig since, and swears this is it now. Just ordered him a smok e-pipe as a back up, and I really hope he sticks to vaping this time Now we are back to convos about throat hit ..... can't change his pipe ... have him on the best atty I could find that looks good on his pipe ... can't do VV because has to be a pipe (he hates the smok one, but convinced him it was better than falling back to the cigs in an emergency) ... won't let me mix for him because I can't make something that tastes exactly like dekang coffee All I can do is add more nicotine to his juice (have a years supply of 18mg juice for him, because he doesn't want too much nic ... it wasn't cutting it for him), and regularly clean the connections and change the coils. For me discovering vaping was miraculous (very few cig-a-likes here, because you can only sell 0nic ones so people start with relatively decent gear). For hubby it has taken him over a year to (hopefully) quit totally. I am now on approx. 5mg juice with an emergency atty with ...wait to be stunned ...12mg (18 is too much for me now) in it for rare times the cravings get to me. Horses for courses

Its an interesting thread this siffy hearing other peeps stories of their vaping journey, you already know my story but for those who don't here goes: I had been thinking about trying an ecig when i saw someone i know using a cigalike one night when we were out at our local, i asked her if she had stopped smoking & she told me she had been stopped 10 weeks with her cigalike so i started researching online & then bought a V2 couples kit for my daughter & myself in 12mg & with 10 cartos each. The kit arrived on 20th March 2013 & i immediately went from approx 15 Regal Kings daily to 4 smoked morning, night & after breakfast & tea & using my cigalike in between but didn't like the cartos & bought some clearos & juice & as time went on it was getting more difficult & after 1 fag i was wishing the time away to my next smoke. Then i had a bit of stress & packed the ecig in i had lasted 6 weeks, i smoked again for 2 weeks & then stumbled across this forum & through the advice of the kind people on here i bought my Riva kit & upped the nic to 18mg, i had my last fag on 19th May then started with the Riva & the 18mg juice, i have had a couple of fags since that day but really don't like the smell or taste they leave in your mouth & if i'm honest i tried them just to test myself if i wanted them more than vaping. I much prefer vaping & class myself as an ex smoker now, i do get thoughts now & then that i could smoke a fag but will not give in as i know it is not what i want anymore. in the back of my mind i did think i'll try the ecig but it will probably not work like every other thing i had used to stop smoking & i am really pleased that it has proved me wrong.

A friend who was a heavier smoker than me, came over for a visit. Whilst here, both him & his non smoking wife were extolling the virtues of vaping. He let me try his ecig & ego-t. He advised me, if I was to go for it, then to go straight for the ego-t, as it was much easier & lasted longer. I forgot about it for a good while, but my chest wasn't so good, so I knew I really needed to cut down, plus I needed to save some money. Looked online for a kit & found one on a Chinese site. Had a bit of a wait for it to arrive, when it did, I made a start. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was & within a couple of days, I was only having a couple of cigs & they tasted rank, so I put the pack away & never looked back. Lungs are brilliant now & the savings have come in very handy. Plus, as the smell from vaping is quite nice, the room smells lovely & I don't have to go out in the cold to get my fix. BTW, the kit I originally bought over a year ago, is still going strong & I still use the batts daily.

I started smoking when I was 11, over the years I have tried many different, the last attempt was a course of champix and that was rough, and something that I was not prepared to go through again then a couple of friends suggested e-cigs when I mentioned I wanted to stop when I finished at uni, I was hoping they would work when nothing else did as I was at the stage of thinking e-cigs were my last attempt at stopping smoking tobacco.
Now four months later I have gone from cig-a-likes to the ego style, to vv/vw and now I am using a magento and just waiting for my res/no res wire to turn up so I can enjoy the terminator rba I just brought (dammm you AAEC for making me spend more lol) as well as making my own juice which would not have been possible if I had not found this forum and all the friendly and knowledgable people on here

I'm another accidental quitter, I smoked for over 40 years a good part as a pipe smoker, I enjoyed my pipe and wasn't interested in giving up even after being diagnosed with high blood pressure, made a few half hearted attempts to give up and failed, it was just a passing conversation at work that got me thinking about e-cigs, looked online found some quite expensive ones but wasn't going to spend too much on something that may or may not work then found VIP ordered a kit, it was about £25, tried it out as soon as it came and decided that it could work so about a week later once I'd got more batteries I switched completely and haven't wanted to smoke in the conventional sense since, I think my addiction is to the mechanics of smoking as much as anything else which is why NRT has never worked. I am really enjoying reading how you all switched, and the circumstances that lead to it, can you believe it we no longer smoke. I still can't believe it seems like I'm in a dream.
I can't remember the last time I fancied a cig (which is completely new to me!) Might be because my parting memory is of a kitchen cleaner type taste? I'm pleased not to have had any urges for weeks but am mindful I might so am not taking anything for granted. I know though for the first time ever in my life I will never go back to cigs and that feeling, to me, feels like being released from a prison as I'm sure does all of you too.

No and neither did the hundreds of other people who knew me..Because cost of smoking was never a problem with me as even my last pouch of tobacco only cost me 1 euro 50 cents. I had tried every conceivable way of stopping including champix but failed until e-cigs..

Thank goodness that you found the Riva kit, I wonder how much longer you would have kept it up with the E-lites? I'd already given up with the E-Lites and had cracked on with a JacVapour PCC kit. That was just about good enough to get me over the finishing line, except all the refilling & charging was driving me crazy. Then Chrissie found me and recommended Vape Escape and Riva. I thought AAEC was a kind of educational "help" site before I realised it was also a forum. I tried a cigarette (for old times sake) on New Years eve 2012, thinking 2013 will be a zero cigs year. It was horrible.

I'm like many others here .... Tried sky cigs for a couple of weeks ... Got fed up with batteries running out and the cost of the cartos... Then consigned them to the kitchen drawer... A year passed and money was getting tight so I tried to resurrect the sky cigs ... One of the batteries was completely dead so I decided to research getting a replacement and then stumbled across this forum ... Was given great advice and got a riva1100 kit which worked great but then caught shinnyitis and progressed to a spinner, evods ,pro tanks and then finally a Vamo and my favourite Iclear 30s...... I do still have the ocassional stinky ... It would be easier if the wife wasn't still smoking ... But I don't get worked up over it .... I smoke fags 95% less than I used to.... And like many blokes I have a thing for gadgets ... This vaping mularchy is a whole new world of shiny gadgetry !! And I love it ... Am now moving towards RBAs and I'm sure ill end up making my own juice at some point I the future..

No! I liked smoking and very stubbornly did not want to quit. The more I was nagged and the more it was banned the more I dug my heels in. I was smoking 40 (or more) a day when a friend gave me a 10Motives disposable to try. I was a bit suspicious but after some research on the internet decided it wouldn't harm me to give it a try. I did not really expect it to replace cigarettes but I discovered it took away the urge to smoke regular cigarettes and with better equipment it has completely replaced tobacco. I refer to myself as an "accidental quitter" and can never see myself returning to cigarettes now.

G3mma.... Sorry to see you are struggling to find the ideal set up ... It seems to me that you've concentrated on the power side of things with mech mods and a Vamo but you don't mention which atties you use except for the reference to cartos......... The power delivery is important but no amount of changing your mods will make any difference really IMHO.... If you have a Vamo you have the ability to vape over a wide range of watts/ voltages... You need to look at the business end I.e the clearo/ Atty.... Have you tried pro tanks or Iclear 16/30s..?. It's this bit that makes the real difference .... Combined with the right juice obviously..
Good luck and keep persevering

Good luck and keep persevering I agree with this. I was such a heavy smoker that I didn't think anything would ever replace cigarettes. However, I have discovered that the atty and the strength of juice are the most important factors in a good vaping experience once you have a decent device. From my experience I would advise trying different clearo/cartos/atties and make sure the strength of juice is strong enough for you. Good luck. We are all rooting for you.

I had my last planned stinky on 31 jan 2012. I had been talking to one of the guys on our fishing syndicate at our xmas meal in 2011 and he told me about his ecig tank set up and mentioned totally wicked. Went on their site in Jan purchased an ego-c with two bottles of ejuice, 5ml in tobacco and mental. Felt a bit of a prat the first day smoking it but found I didn't crave fans. But the 10ml ran out quicker than I expected. Got in touch with another site he suggested for juice and they got it to me next day but I did buy a pack of 10 to get me through. That was about 6th Feb 2012 and I have not touched a stinky since. The second site kindly sent me a fog 10 device to try out and it was so much better as the tank was bigger, then got a twist battery and then 3 vivi novas that lasted me for a year. Decided to treat myself on my "anniversary" to a protank and then a Vamo as I wanted to rewick it myself and needed to check ohms and all that. Last month I moved into the rba arena with a Magneto and rsst which I love. I have one issue in that my missus still sees this as smoking no matter how I explain so still do not vape openly in front of her (it's a respect thing!) so mixing juices is a no no. On the positive side I have helped "convert" 5 peeps to vaping so spreading the word at any opportunity! My biggest worry for the future is the attempt to legislate on ecig, as I do not know what I would if it came in. As said before its the mechanics of smoking/vaping that I enjoy. Good luck to all starting on this journey stick with it and it will pay dividends

No - it was a bit of wishful thinking initially. I've stopped smoking several times over the years but have always gone astray, I never before felt like a non-smoker because the craving was always there somewhere in the background - now it's not, simple as. I've mentioned this elsewhere but the biggest surprise for me is the fact that I'm not eating to compensate. Another bonus is that I really enjoy vaping (now that I've found some flavours I like) there's also an element of excitement in discovering new things and this forum has to be the icing on the cake.
