The study was crippled.1 carto a day on a cigalike was all they were allowed and the study has been done over two years I believe so E-cigs were nothing like as good as they are now. I'm well aware of that. But in the light of anti vaping campaign in mainstream media and of many gov/health officials, every write up like this article feels like enlightenment. Lets hope they finally do a study on proper/advanced devices. I doubt Big Pharma would fund that The main problem is there are so many variables with vaping, proper scientific study is nigh on impossible so all the evidence is anecdotal using the full range of devices, juices and user settings. No scientist/ researcher/ doctor can publish anecdotal evidence unless they want to be a laughing stock with their peers. So we are stuck with diluted and watered down studies that cripple the main advantage of E-cigs, the fact that vaping can be all things to all people.

So we are stuck with diluted and watered down studies that cripple the main advantage of E-cigs, the fact that vaping can be all things to all people. Well that's the way the modern science works. You want to find solution to a problem, you have to make thousands of experiments with as many variables as possible. Large Hadron Collider cost so far £2.6 billion, and the measurements will continue for quite some time. If smoking costs NHS billions of £'s(can't recall the exact figure), why not to throw 100mil on electronic cigarettes research... As Prof.Hajek says in the article: ''The key message is that in the context of minimum support, e-cigarettes are at least as effective as nicotine patches.E-cigarettes are also more attractive than patches to many smokers, and can be accessed in most countries without the restrictions around medicines that apply to nicotine replacement therapy or the costly involvement of health professionals. These advantages suggest that e-cigarettes have the potential to increase rates of smoking cessation and reduce costs to quitters and to health services.'' It surely makes sense economically as well as politically...

It does but it's Big Pharma that funds most research in health. Why would they want to fund conclusive studies into a competing product that might show it in a favourable light?

I agree and we've got no chance at that Luckily MEPs are coming round to our views, Pharma has a vested interest in E-cigs failing and Health politics is funded by Pharma therefore pretty corrupt. I'm sure the truth will out, we are making huge headway into the EU.

You have to smile though , ecigs speak volumes all by themselves just by being a constant rise in volume in visible use, which we all know is on the rise day by day , AND THEY KNOW IT.

...or the health officials are just right in protecting public against the epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases. According to study in China Science Daily ( clicky) - the more e-cigarettes vapers vape, the more they want to have sex. ''Dr Wel Hung warned against using nicotine, which he describe as Satan’s drug, for sex purposes. However, under intense scrutiny from journalists 67 year old non-smoker Dr Hung admitted he had taken up vaping since leaving his wife and marrying a 17 year old Thai fashion actress, although he refused to comment on the reason.''

Cool. Nice to see a picture of a proper e-cig with a decent tank. Enough of the plastic stick nonsense.

Can you imagine the scores on the doors for this study if people had been given a decent eGo and clearo? 7.3% would surely get up to double or triple. Hell, maybe even 73% would have been do-able.

The first time I tried quitting with patches I had some success.............18mths cig free then after stress caused by a major upheaval I started again and kept on smoking until Jan 2012 when I discovered e-cigs and this forum and since then...............even with some bad things happening I've not touched a stinky so my view would be that e-cigs arer much better than any patch, gum, inhilator or spray
