I'm going to watch the new series of Downton Abbey tonight. Never bothered with the previous series until I watched it on ITV3 recently, and got hooked. I am so, so ashamed.... but sod it, who cares. I'm a fan, of sorts. Have been since series one. I'm a sucker for all sorts of costume drama, largely out of historical interest - I watch these things with a highly critical eye, seeing what liberties have been taken with the times or technology and pouncing gleefully on trivial mistakes that I can parade in front of other sad geeks enthusiastic viewers.

Tv - no never- it is rubbish to corrupt your brain, read an intellectual book Sammy, I used to love reading, but my eyesight has gone along with my age, and it hurts now to read more than a page or two. I did used to love it, and miss it. Have you tried an E reader Raffles? you can make the print really huge

Thanks for the suggestion Karma... I've used my sons' iPads... but, call me old fashioned, I still prefer the feel of a 'real' book where you physically turn the pages, and can see how far you've got just by looking at the still pristine pages left. ETA: Just going back to Downton... I fell asleep within half an hour, so haven't a clue what happened.

I originally got a basic Kobo and found that I loved it but it didn't last a year I now have the basic Kindle, bought it with a dissie code that a kind member here PM'd me with, she also gave me the link to sign up for the free books. I no longer need the light on to read read in bed as I bought this from FT, so hubby is happy www.fasttech.com/product/1383700I've gone digital with my smokes AND my reading
