I'm going to watch the new series of Downton Abbey tonight. Never bothered with the previous series until I watched it on ITV3 recently, and got hooked. I am so, so ashamed.... but sod it, who cares.

Lol Raffles got to admit very quietly that - I also like Downtown Abbey - just tend to like period dramas

Tv - no never- it is rubbish to corrupt your brain, read an intellectual book Sammy, I used to love reading, but my eyesight has gone along with my age, and it hurts now to read more than a page or two. I did used to love it, and miss it.

Yes, Sammy, I do like documentaries and the news, but sometimes it get's too depressing. I think we all need a little time of 'escapisim' where we can forget our troubles and pretend we're OK, even if we're not!

+1 for Downton Abbey, I will shamelessly admit that we are devotees too. Looks like Julian Fellowes hasn't lost his touch either!

I am a shameless addict and have seen every episode from the beginning. Great to see after tonight's episode that is continuing to be as gripping as ever.

Downton is ace - hopefully this will be up to the standard of seasons one and three and not following on from the slight mis-step of season 2.
(watching it tomorrow as Mrs Dream went to bed early)

I enjoy it also but it angers me to see all the fore-lock tugging people had to do to stay employed and I think they are trying to get the workforce back under the thumb again nowadays

Ashamed? Raffles you should be MORTIFIED! That is no sort of escapism for an intellectual man like yourself ... get yourself onto You Tube and listen to some good music videos ... there is every artist your have ever heard of on there and no matter how mainstream or out there your music tastes may be you will find something. While my wife was watching that Downtown Abbey or whatever it is called, I was chilling with the headphones on, eyes closed listening to the fantastic kd lang and the reclines and that can in no way be classed as a wasted hour and a half of my life. But I have got to respect you for your bravery in admitting such a shameful secret to the whole forum ... respect man!

It is an excellent period drama, with some fantastic actors and storyline. Alas, they did not win an award last night.
