Ok so i have been re coiling my protank heads all weekend so far and still having trouble with them. I have sussed it that twisting the legs stops the burnt rubber taste and also getting the coils tight like our Super-Shiny said. The problem i am having is that after i take about 2 or 3 pulls i am getting really bad dry hits. If i leave it for a minute then go again it is ok so it is not enough juice getting to the coil. I have tried various different combinations of wick sizes and flavour wicks but it still seems to be doing the same. The only thing i have not tried is no flavour wicks as worried about leaking. Still waiting on my 2mm ekowool and as i am doing a protank head re build with silica lesson at the vape meet i need to get this nailed. Any ideas people?

Try no flavour wicks, and if it floods then at least you then know it is not this which is the problem. You may have wound the coil too tight. I have been keeping my coils reasonably loose not tight when finished.

I use either Ekowool or the pre wound coil and always a top flavour wick and I find this works well.
Each one only takes 4 or 5 minutes using the pre made coil/wick. Ekowool takes a little longer.

I don't bother with the flavour wick with eco or standard. Ecowool definitely tastes better but don't get any flooding whatsoever

Roscopecotrain - I'm following this thread with interest as I'm having problems with my Protank heads too. I'm using .2 Kanthal and 2mm Ekowool, and they are hit and miss - some work perfectly, and some are weak and watery although they show the same ohms. Some of my heads fade after only about 36 hours, others go on for at least a week. On Rom's suggestion, I am not currently using flavour wicks on top. I think I have nailed my previous problem with them shorting by winding the wraps much closer together in the middle of the head, and I'll be interested to see what others say here. In any case, it's much cheaper than buying them off the shelf, and much more satisfying when they do actually work!!

Hi Roscopecotrain, have you tried doubling the silica? I do this and then this removes the issue of flavour wicks as you already have extra silica in the slot? Never had any leaking with this. I know Super-Shiny does it different but this works for me. And my vapology juices are all 60/40. I presume you have used a pin or paper clip when winding to prevent being too tight? Personally I don't but being a carp fisherman, coils are very similar to rigs that I tie so I think I have been lucky in gauge the tension. I'm using.

Roscopecotrainhiya mate, been following this thread with interest. everyone seems to have a fixation on 2mm silica. All I can suggest is what I use 1.5mm doubled over 0.2 Kanthal, I find 4 wraps comes out about 1.8ohms and 5wraps at 2.2ish ohms. I know the fashion is for "micro coils", well seems I was ahead of the game because all I have ever wrapped could be classified as such. (fit lovely and snug with no shorting probs.) Never bothered with a flavour wick (read PLUG) Give it a try and you won't need to use a pin as the twin strand of silica is rigid enough. Hope this helps out.

Roscopecotrain What are you vaping these on? It is clearly a wicking issue, and it can't keep up with the rate at which your vaping it, the only options are turn the power down, which helps no one or increase the size of the wick. (if your sure the coil is not to tight) I re coiled my mate's T3s the other night, 3mm silica and it still flooded, so a 1mm wick on top and it was all good. I would agree with the 2mm silica doubled over, wrapped on a pin and make sure it is nice and flat when you pull the wires through the bottom. Don't remove the pin till the very end.
