I'd heard the 510 connector was still brass on the SS body and that the replacement top caps are much stronger. That's second-hand information though.

I think the threads are still brass (or certainly a very soft material) even on the SS heads.
This is one of the reasons I'm leaning towards an SVD rather than Vamo, even though I don't particularly like the telescoping look.

thanks guys.... looks like it may have to be a v5 ss one then, at least you can take the collar off to use the ego threads and be able to remove stuff off it

SS is better than brass/chromed even just for aesthetics. as the chrome will rub off.

Build quality on my SS v2 seems impeccable. No problems after a year and it has got dropped quite a bit. But it does weigh a ton, even in short mode, which makes it more likely that if you drop it it will break whatever is sitting on it. Hardly ever use it in long mode.

I got her an ally one which she prefers, I'm just trying to nurse the 510 threads on this one for now

GunJack -put an air-flow controller on it - will save the threads and not look as daft as my 510-EGO on a Riva battery with a protank on top

Don't you just want to get a new top cap then?

Don't you just want to get a new top cap then? £9-odd for a top cap delivered plus finding the time to swap over, or £20 for a new ss v5 with removable collar to access both types of thread...... was coming down on the side of a new ss one..

Build quality on my SS v2 seems impeccable. I take that back. The pin got pushed down tonight. I've got it back up again, and it is working, but in the process the washer came out, and now I suspect that if my atty leaks through the centre post it will flood the electronics.
And I can't get the cap off just by wiggling it. Maybe I'm not strong enough. It seems stupid that a little problem like that should destroy the thing, but maybe I'm also in the market for a V5.

giles follow this link, gives details to fix it. Here is the link to the repair on the O-ring/grommet under the centre pin I did on my Vamo. I am sure that this same repair could possibly be used on other mods with a perished/damaged O-ring Here is the link to the repair on the O-ring/grommet under the centre pin I did on my Vamo. I am sure that this same repair could possibly be used on other mods with a perished/damaged O-ring Details here Post 27 allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/thread/20283/vamo-ring-split?scrollTo=389746&page=2 I use an opened safety pin opened in a right angle and bend the pointed end to a right angle using a pair of pliers. You should end up with a safety pin that is easy to hold with a right angled hook on the pointed end. Place the hooked part of the safety pin down the side of the Vamo centre pin and twist the hook under the flat top of the centre pin and ease it up slightly. Repeat all the way around the centre pin several times just a little by little until you have eased the pin completely out. The wire attached should allow you to bring the centre pin clear of the Vamo top by about 10mm.. You can then hook the old silicon washer out and over the top of the centre pin. I then destroyed an old carto that has a silicon washer inside that fits the Vamo perfectly. You then use this washer to put over the top of the centre pin (i used a cocktail stick to stretch it over the centre pin. You can then push the new silicon washer/tube down into the hole in the top cap followed by gently pushing back the centre pin. Voilà as they say. This new silicon washer is much better quality than the original and I have had no problems since. Here are a couple of photos that I hope will help. The above shows the old perished silicon seal around the pulled out centre pin And above, the new silicon washer salvaged from an old carto Up! | Down!
