Following up on a post by nudger1964 over at UKVapers, I discovered that the link he posted for a fibreglass wick manufacturer turns out to be a company not 5 minutes from where I work, called Hattersley's. I've just been down to their premises in Keighley during my lunch break. Turns out it was exactly the right time to go, as all the regular staff were on their lunch I ended up chatting to their Sales and Development Director. Lovely chap, couldn't be more helpful. Hattersleys are perfect, they're not a supplier, they're a manufacturer, which means a good supply.. I took along samples of three types of wick I have from different repairable Attys. Namely The Ato-miser, Bulli and iAtty wicks. The smallest off-the-shelf diameter wick that they have is 3mm, of which I was given a good sample of to try, it's completely (and guaranteed) untreated with any chemicals, and is purely fibreglass braided into a wick. Pictured above is the sample of wick that I was provided (3mm) next to the standard wick that comes with the iAtty, and you can see that the sample is roughly twice the diameter of the iAtty wick. I'll give the sample a try, but I'm supremely confident this is the right stuff, as it looks, feels and smells exactly the same. I tried burning a small sample of the sample wick in the car with a cigarette lighter, and there was nothing... it glowed, as you would expect, but no charring and no fumes given off. Now, as Hattersley's are a manufacturer they are more than happy to braid wick in a smaller dimension, be it Bulli thickness, or iAtty thickness. But there is a minimum order quantity in order for them to do that, which is 200m. I know that most of you looking at that last paragraph will be groaning at the MOQ, but here comes the best bit. They will manufacture this for 60p per metre (ex VAT), so with VAT that works out at 70.5p a metre! Anyway, as I said, I'm going to give this new wick a test today, and I'll report back on its efficacy, but think we might have a goer here... at this kind of price we're talking £7.05 for 10 metres of wick, which means we would need to get 20 people interested in buying 10 metres, and there's our MOQ!!

Just be aware that I'm pretty sure that the wick we've been supplied with the Iatty is too fat. I'm pretty sure that's why Imeo is now going for the CE2 wick. I've just made a coil up with the wick from CE2 and on first appearances it is much better, I've not had any leakage as yet As we only need around 6 cm it could be possible to undo some and use a few strands to make a suitable wick?

OK... think that we need to establish which wick people want... Bulli, or iAtty. Personally for the last couple of days I've been using Bulli wick in the iAtty, did the Bulli style winding, but with 4 loops and then snipped the ends when it was all assembled... and I think it actually wicks more even now... but that's just me. Obviously if there's enough interest for both wicks then both it is....

Oh I should also add that I couldn't wait, I had to strip down my iAtty and use some of the wick sample I was given. It works a treat. No aftertaste, no nasty smell... taste is perfect, and pretty much exactly what I expected when I was told that there's nothing in it, just fibreglass fibre...

Posted before I read this... if this is the case, then it would be one wick fits all... as the Bulli wick is about the same diameter as the CE2 wick... good news!

Bulli-size will be best for me, as that's what I'm currently using in my rebuildables.

Now that does make perfect sense :oIf you raise the wicks upwards(like i was doing)then you could be letting a large flow of juice into the cone.If you cut the wicks smaller and dont raise them up it should stop the leaking, bloody typical, ive sold and posted mine out,grr Now thats the only thing i never tried, well done mate for stopping the leaking.
