Are We Smokers?

Say you were filling in a life insurance form and it asked if you were a smoker, what would you put and what do you think their perception would be?

I said I wasn't

I would tread carefully. Get in touch with them and ask what their stance is on vaping, then get it in writing! I have heard before that some companies don't class you as a non smoker until you've been nicotine free for over a year

It's not worth taking chances on, no point paying good money for it to turn out that you'd voided the policy by vaping

Same here, class myself as a non smoker and our IVF doctor says the same. Good enough for me.

My GP has put me down - as a non smoker even though they know I am a vaper

My COPD doctor knows that I am a vaper and my medical records have me as a non smoker since August 2008. Check with your own GP what he/she has you classed as.

do insurance co's / doctors have you blowing in that pipe thing to check? You know like the ones they have you doing on smoking quit courses to check carbon monoxide I think.

Anyone done one of these lately btw? would they come clear? they did on me when I was on the nic patches

They don't detect nicotine or indeed any co or co2 ....  they are used purely to determine lung function ie: how quickly you can dispel a quantity of air, how long it takes you and the quantity of air that you have expelled.

I think the test would come up clear of carbon monoxide, if I remember rightly it's burning that produces it, so vaping doesn't produce any.

I'm not 100% sure on that though.

ahh right.  would be interesting to know. My breathing fitness is definitely improved in the few weeks vaping. I can do burpees and jump jacks now without dropping.

All the insurance companies have their own rules though, nothing to do with your GP.
