@blownupdollymy son is a ski instructer who works half the year in Australia! Hotham, just north of Melbourne. They do get snow. Yep, that's the area I was referring to in my post, but isn't the skiing area something different? That name doesn't ring a bell though, I was thinking of Perisher Blue. Also when I went to check via google it turns out Tasmania does it too.

Personally I hate Winter, just ask my wife! Dark in the mornings, dark by 4.30pm, cold, everybody's in a hurry to get home, money going up in smoke (yes, we have a woodburner too!), and colds and illness everywhere. My favourite time of the year? February half-term - the difference in the morning light between the Friday before and then 10 days later on the Monday after is uplifting. Give me warmth and sunshine any day, you can keep all your fluffy socks and snow, thank you very much!

I dislike winter. I don't finish work until after 6.30 so its been dark for a while by the time I get home. I do like the sunny mornings after a hard frost, crunching leaves walking through the park on the way to work Much prefer the summer as long as it isn't too hot. Many hours spent in beer gardens until late at night in the summer

I'm from the scottish Highlands. Like the majority of people from mountainous regions we think people trundling up mountains in winter are insane - stay in unless you really, really, really, have to go outside. People where I live now, Stirling - a mere 100 miles or so south, think I'm taking the piss when I say I moved south for the warm weather. Minus 20 (with wind dropping that further) in winter versus minus 10, would seem to answer that one easily lol. I don't hate winter, its just nature. Wrap up warm and live on. I type this with no heating on, the windows open and I'm wearing a T-shirt. It's all a matter of personal experience (if you are acclimatised to central heating, extremes seem more extreme).

Hopefully this winter will be really cold, so we can test the double glazing and new doors that we have just ordered today, feeling a lot more skint than yesterday, Andy
