My desktop and screen is on it's last legs and we happened to pop into PC World, and actually escaped without buying anything, but I quite liked the Hewlett Packard all in one touch screen thingy, brilliant screen on it, I5 8gig, and 2 terrabytes only £929 lol was severely tempted but in a moment of sanity I thought it might be better to obtain the wisdom of you lot So what do you recommend, under a grand, not made my mind up between desktop or not, so come on out with it, where should I lay my wonga?

I tend to think on the lines of a car , do I need a formula 1 car for the car park . if you like comfort without the need for all the stuff you tend to keep on a computer desk , then laptop , if you use all the crap on the desk a lot then a desktop, sorted

Bluefish You would need to specify your requirements to narrow down the hundreds of choices there are out there. For example do require a computer for simply browsing t'interweb and sending emails, do you require fast speed and advanced graphics for gaming, do you intend downloading or streaming movies, do you require long battery life and portability for on the move etc, etc, etc. I myself only require internet access and email and the convenience of a wifi laptop and hence my HP Pavilion g6 cost me a mere £300. Others require everything and can spend £2000 on a computer.

You can buy mine for a grand. The selling point - it works but the downside - the chipset inside is failing so I have been told. If your willing to buy it, I will buy some gadget wipes and clean it for you Let me know soon before the chipset goes altogether I can spend the money on a new pc Seriously couldn't recommend anything but good luck in finding the right Pc

As freefrom says, it really depends what you want it for. I got my Medion from Amazon a few months ago, it cost like £250 (without a screen) but does everything I want, but then I don't play the latest games, in everything else however, it works like a dream.

Hi, I've had one of the HP all in one touchscreen thingies for a couple of years or so. Brilliant. The only downside is that the cooling fan is a little noisy when watching video clips, etc. but I just put in my earphones, problem solved, simples. Alan

Others require everything and can spend £2000 on a computer. I need it for, general browsing, photo's, watching movies and streaming to tv, and music, 1TB hard drive is not enough, as it would be full in one year, it does not need to be mobile, so laptops out. As to gaming quite possibly, don't play at the moment but would get back into it especially if I had a decent computer/screen, that's why I liked this, www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/desktop-pc-monitors/desktop-pcs/all-in-one-pcs/hp-envy-23-d180ea-touchsmart-23-touchscreen-all-in-one-pc-21346322-pdt.html mmm, cheaper online.

That would seem to be ideal for what you require Bluefish although it doesn't give any details of the graphics suitability for gaming. It has a fast processor and the 6gb ram chip can be simply upgraded to to 16gb if required in the future. It also has 2 tb hard drive so no shortage of storage, a large 24" monitor, touch screen, wireless mouse an keyboard and windows 8 operating system.

Same processor, 8gb ram upgradable to the same 16gb ( these chips can be bought online for a lot less than the extra £80 you would pay for this and can be fitted in 5 mins). However both are suitable for what you want Bluefish with no real world difference in performance that I can see so it really boils down to looks and the extra 2gb ram up front. ETA: In the real world, speed of internet access for browsing, downloading and streaming depends as much on the speed of your broadband as the processor speed and ram of your computer.

@freefromsmoking I will have a closer look at the two and try and decide lol How does an imac compare to one of these? cos they look good, but is that what you are paying for the looks? Oh and as to BB I am on 100meg so shouldn't be a problem there.
