Cheers Rom, why would it go after a bit of use, and any advice on how to stop it happening on a New head? It's just where the wires are bedding in (with new heads) and when there is nothing left to burn it's bedded. If you really wanna stop this the only real way is to remove the center pin (the one of the far right in the picture) and remove any stands of wick on top of the main coil and then dry burn with short pulses of 2-3 seconds until you cannot smell any rubber anymore then re-assemble. This can be done with Evods/Protanks/Davides...basically anything with a Evod head. Not sure about other clearos.

Just for info that bung is in most clearos out there, just some are slightly worse than others.

The bungs are omnipresent, but the iClears use non-resistance legs so as not to scorch them

I have no personal experience of the evod style head but my granddaughter tells me the she avoids the scorched rubber taste by letting her new evods sit for about 15 mins after filling to let the wick and coil become well saturated before vaping.

I have just been reading a thread over on EFC about this scorching problem and a solution that has been found to be very successful is to snip off the tip of the rubber grommet so that it is further away from the coil. ... this would verify Super-Shiny 's post that it is the closeness of the coil to the grommet that causes the scorching.

Yep that would work too, good find What i do with a new head is just dry burn the coil/wick and let the burnt rubber smoke release into the air (better in the air than in the tank)...it fades away after about 5 x 2-3 seconds of pulses of heat.

Ah, ok, so basically bottom coils are fundamentally crap even with good wiring because there's simply no space?

Nope, top coil is the same, they are still close to the bung, the only difference is BCC is at the bottom and TCC are at the top, no difference. Bottom line is they are mass produced and there will always be problems with some, just don't buy cheap clones and you will have less chance of it happening.

It's worth comparing a CE4+/CE5 head with an iClear16 head. I don't think you're entirely correct.

OK they might not be as close but the post is about Evod heads etc and the rubber taste, at the same time try building a Iclear16 head without res/non res wire and see if there is no rubber taste. I did not give help on the war between Evods and Iclears i just gave some ideas of what causes the rubber taste
