Just trying to gauge some opinion really, which is why it's in the General Discussion area (but if it should be in the suppliers section, can one of the nice Mods please move it). Anyway, I'm thinking about a section on my site for second hand devices, such as shiny's. Just to be clear, I'm not talking about basic kits, atomisers, carto's etc more the fancy stuff. Because I often get asked if I want to buy X,Y,Z. As an example, I myself have an Icon, Ultramax, Provape etc that I just don't use so I thought about putting them up on the site as one-offs. Then I thought, maybe other people who have perhaps tried to sell on the classifieds and not had any luck, may have an interest in this. Just looking for some opinion really (River and Blakey are barred from giving their opinion ) Thanks

Jason thats a great idea and ill tell you why...some times when trying to purchase you can be waiting hours for the user to come back on line but if there was a site where the products was available then its just a case of add to basket job done.
obvisley you could not offer warrenty or such but then they would know that from the description of the product.
most if not all the second hand shiny products have a value and are normally very well taken care off and so a new user would get a lot of pleasure from second hand products
go for it i say and good luck

I'm not sure how you would work it Jason, but the principle sounds good.
Perhaps have a different site dedicated to the second hand shinys with different terms and conditions so that VE proper is a separate but connected entity - a bit like Toby has his Janty site and the elixir site.
Just a thought.

Thanks Daz,
Warranty is one of the issues with second hand goods which does come into the equation.
On the plus side, the buyer would have some back up and technical support which they may not get with a private purchase.
So there are pro's and con's.

If it's specified on the descripton that the item is second hand, and comes f.x. with no warranty but working. then I think it's one of those things of you pay your money you take your chance, you could buy somethign second hand and it works for years or weeks, thast the reason its cheaper than brand new. The only warranty I could see being possible is about a weeks worth of warranty. Incase of broken in transit or within a day or two of reciept. After that it's on the buyer.
I'm not sure a second site would be necassery, a new area would be, so as not to mix up new and old.

Thanks for the replies Russ and Jemima.
Yes, the terms, conditions and legalities are something I would need to look into.
Good points.

I think it's a very good idea Jason, if you can get the DSRs etc. worked out.
Bear in mind too, anyone paying via PayPal is essentially getting 45 days warranty with the SNAD buyer's protection.

I also think it's a very good idea Jason And no problems with the thread being here in the General Discussion area - as that's all you are doing ie discussing the idea

In essence it sounds a good idea Jason, but as others have said, I think you need to be very careful that you don't open up a can of worms for yourself. Would you be looking to buy the 2nd hand mods yourself, then sell them on or would you take a 'commission' when you have sold them? The thing I find very frustrating on the Classifieds elsewhere is the 'dealing' that goes on behind the ad . . . you think you're the one with first dibs on the item, only to find it's been bagged by PM.

Yep.."behind the scenes" dealing does go on but I can't see how it can be stopped.
On UKV yesterday, I got a PM from a member looking to trade my Darwin (which I didn't like) for a P18 & Vapemate. He had already created a thread saying it was for Trade or Sale and I did the deal kind of "behind the scenes...Result - He was happy, I was happy BUT I am sure that there may have been a few people who were "pissed" at that but hey! TOO BAD...You get to sell what you want to whoever you want!
Only my thoughts...hope I didn't annoy or enrage!
Later...

I think it's an excellent idea Jason You'd just have to make it very clear that the sales were private sales and that you're just offering the avenue to allow for the sales to take place, unless you were thinking of going down the route that Perps has mentioned above.

id thought about doing this a few months ago but decided i didnt want to go down that road, i think you would have to offer the seller who no longer wanted the mod a lower rate than what its worth for the vendor to make anything on it and by the time you charge shipping to whoever your selling it too you would hardly be making much and having to put a warranty on it so could end up out of pocket if the mod went tits up, also what you may find is people not reading the description of the items as an example i had to refund around 10 people as they hadnt read the description in bold red capitols that i was selling all the old stock of BW510N as SPARES OR REPAIRS, and after the 5th sale of missunderstanding i made sure and emailed everyone before they were sent out to make sure they knew they were buying a faulty product.

Some good points and thanks for all the feedback.
Warranties or lack of are definately the key issue that I will be looking into.

I think it's a good idea. Maybe people could do trades with you or get store credit for their old mods. A used section in your shop would be a first and something I'm sure people would use.

Yes I would agree that a good second-hand store would be welcomed by most!
Its nice to trade on the Forums but I have been "pipped at the post" so many times now!
