I refuse to cook for Christmas. We head to the pub for a few jars with friends for a liquid lunch then wander to the mother in laws for a meal afterwards, washed down with crates of whatever premium Belgium beer the brother in law has hoarded over the year. Boxing days generally hurt.

There will be plenty of mulled wine here too! Dinner will be a turducken wiv all the trimmings! Gammon too, as it's needed for the Boxing day cold cuts, bubble & squeak, baked beans & pickles. lol Ok, ok, it get the turd bit, but what is an ucken? Blownupdolly turducken is deboned chicken stuffed into a deboned duck, which is in turn stuffed into a deboned turkey.

I'm on Xmas dinner duty this year - I have both sets of in-laws to cook for, and only a little oven. I'll do a turkey with all the trimmings on Xmas day, and then cold meat with mustard mash and all the pickles you can think of on Boxing Day. I also have a gammon on order from the local farm shop - I've not tried the cola method before but I've had it cooked for me and it's lush, so I'll be giving it a go at some point.
I'm a bit worried that I won't get the bird cooked on the day, time and oven space may mean I have to do it the night before - a shame but needs must. I've been watching masterchef religiously this year, but I can't see either mine or mrs ionian's dad being impressed if I try to serve a Brussels sprout pureé with a parsnip foam!
And the really bad news: I can't drink because I have to drive my parents home, half way round the M25, at the end of the day! You can bet I'll be saving a good bottle for Boxing Day, just for me... Still, it'll be nice to host it and I do love cooking.

Oooh, We'll start the day with smoked salmon, cream cheese and caviar blinis with bucks fizz for breakfast.
Then for lunch, I'll be doing Nigella's recipe for Turkey and a nice Maple Roast Gammon. Accompanied with goose fat roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, black pudding with sage in blankets, sausage meat stuffing, baby sprouts with pancetta, roast carrots & parsnips, broccoli and yorkshire puddings (a pre-requisite for any roast dinner according to my nephews! lol)
Boxing day will be cold meat, bubble and squeak, the day after will be turkey pie...
Can't wait! Just need to make sure I don't get too tipsy whilst I'm cooking!!!!!

A big bowl full up with roasties, yorkshire puddings and pigs in blankets. One fork and a large jug of gravy to dip it all in. Perfect. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2
