It's OK to "normalise" alchohol so why not e-cigs. There are big money people behind this.

My opinion is that this argument is pathetic.
What are they trying to say? Something that "on the surface" seems like something else which is becoming socially less accepted (over generations) is therefore not to be encouraged (ok, I kind of get that...) whilst the activity which is the more harmful and already socially sensitive itself is more-or-less left to be?
Non-smokers don't think I'm "normal" vaping, but most of them seem kind of happy for me that I've quit tobacco.
What they are secretly saying is "ouch, we don't like vaping as it's safer smoking but probably still leads to nicotine addiction, and should be banned as it must surely (sarcasm alert) lead to smoking tobacco. Better to do anything to avoid the tiny chance of a previously non-smoking vaper turning to tobacco than allow existing smokers a chance at a healthier future". Quit or die.
Rubbish. Pure speculation.

Well here's a first for the BBBC , Scientists say that if all smokers in the world switched from cigarettes to electronic cigarettes, it could save millions of lives. In the UK there are currently about 100,000 deaths per year attributable to smoking, worldwide it is estimated to be more than five million. Now researchers are hopeful that an increasing use of e-cigarettes could prevent some of these deaths. But some groups warn that e-cigarettes could normalise smoking. An estimated 700,000 users smoke e-cigarettes in the UK, according to Action on Smoking and Health. Some users combine "vaping", as it is often called, with traditional cigarettes while others substitute it for smoking completely. E-cigarettes have also recently be found to be just as effective as nicotine patches in helping smokers quit. www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-24914473

I don't get it ....we were all celebrating a couple of months ago because the EU voted against a ban on e-cigs I know. It seems the EU isn't content and wants to attack e-cigs from another angle. The "medical" argument/propsal failed. That was the best shot i.m.o. Simply inventing stuff (proposals) in the hope of getting the right balance of restrictions to get enough votes to get a new law through is fairly long-shot stuff. If MEPs really wanted to ban e-cigs, they would have done it with the meds route, as that is the one that suited big Pharma the best. By making them medicines, it would also have created a chance to take tax as well. The new proposals will not suit anybody, except for sending some smokers back to tobacco. I cannot see the logic.
