On Monday morning my boiler failed . I have no heating and no hot water . I'm managing to keep one room warm with an electric fan heater but the rest of the house is down to about 12 degrees now. The heating engineers have been and gone and are waiting for a part to be delivered. It might be fixed by the weekend And I don't even have a lighter I can huddle round any more

My tenants never told me about the boiler going last winter. Not until about a month ago when they gave notice and told me it was broken, and they wouldn't be staying another winter without heating.
Thanks for that. Could have had it fixed no problem. Coin was sitting waiting on it happening, so now I've had to fix it, and now look for other tenants. Right at Christmas time. Excellent.

Know how you feel. Mine broke earlier this year during the coldest week of the year. 10 days with no heating or hot water. Boiler also ran the radiators for my shop attached to my house, customers complaining the shop was freezing:(
I hope they get the part quickly for you.

Sorry to hear you're having heating probs OneDay It happened to me too just a couple of weeks ago. *Really* old heating system and a radiator sprung a leak at the back, spraying all over the wall and floor. The valves on the rad were so old they wouldn't close/seal, so had to shut off and drain the whole heating system. Ended up with almost 2 weeks with no heating while first of all trying to find a heating engineer who could fit the job in.. and then while the boiler was updated to a combi and the radiators were replaced. Cost a small fortune in electric running fan heaters and boiling kettles to wash

I'm all electric and love my igenix heater from amazon. Had it on all winter (not literally all the time) and they were £30-40 for a halogen heater. Don't cost the earth in electric and easy to put together. Better than the ones from the cheap shops in town. Might be worth ordering one in now ....my only regret was getting a remote control one when I didn't need it

I so know how you feel OneDay. Mine packed up in Feb last year, was told they haven't made that type of back boiler for 20 years. So, the whole system had to come out, and be replaced with a combi boiler. Had to buy another kettle, and do all my personal hygiene and 'other' things as if in the dark ages. We take so much for granted. Hope you get it sorted soon. PS The money I'd already saved from vaping did come in handy.

OneDay Sorry to hear your news, hope it`s fixed in `double time`. use thermal underwear if you have any and always have your head covered, it`s amasing how much body heat is lost out of the top of your head, does`nt matter what you look like in the house just try and keep warm. Chin up it`s only for a short time.

Fire place in the main room and a convector heater in the spare room and that's about it for me, fire doesn't break down but sometimes I do malfunction.

Don't cost the earth in electric and easy to put together. Better than the ones from the cheap shops in town. Might be worth ordering one in now ....my only regret was getting a remote control one when I didn't need it Those 400W-per-element halogen heaters work really well. I was suprised how effective they are and because of that, reasonably economical - I bought one to replace a traditional two-bar electric fire and for half the power consumption the rooom was easily as warm. Obviously, there was no improvement in efficiency (electric heating is 100% efficient, that's a given), but there is most certainly an improvement in efficacy. Only drawback is the first two I bought were cheap ones, as that's all the local shops stock and I'll not buy another cheapy - those Igenix ones look better quality, although I see they also offer a couple of the cheap looking ones too. The element life and the switches on the cheap ones are short, also bad design leads to overheating of the plastic casing, with the rear case simply falling apart with the heat - luckily it didn't melt or catch fire.

I've had the igenix 3 bar one all winter and it's fine. I know it has a few bad reviews but when you consider how many they sell why worry? Seriously anyone with a busted boiler needs to get one. Cos we have snow (snaw)

Well they've replaced the fan and still no joy, so it's the wiring loom next, hopefully tomorrow. As the ambient temperature indoors is now down to about ten degrees I decided to do some mixing to cheer me up. But my liquids (especially VG) are so thick in the cold it's been a nightmare
