Lucky you kailey  ...  mine was despatched on the 27th so it looks as though I will have to raise a ticket and wait for the replacement deck ...  will still enjoy it with the chromed brass however and keep an eye on it in case the chrome starts blistering ...  I assume that it would be the heat from the coil that would cause this.

The picture of my order just shows the Taifun GT itself ...  no separate SS base  ...  I'm not overly concerned as they do seem to be very eager to rectify the problem, so I will just raise a ticket and wait my turn.

FT Taifun GT arrived today and it has the chromed brass base  ... have raised a ticket  ...  the latest is that FT are offering a $5 refund or they will ship the SS base when stock arrives  ...they are awaiting delivery of the SS bases from the manufacturer and will dispatch on a first come first served ticket basis, so just have to bide my time.

It looks like mine is in the UK now but they haven't sent out the base yet as that is still pending. Hopefully they will make sure everyone is okay in the end.

I'm just going to use it as it is until the SS base arrives and keep an eye out for peeling chrome  ... I reckon it should be OK for a while as chrome plating is pretty robust

According to the guy on the FT forum who has been doing all the work in communicating with the FT customer services lady, they are taking it very seriously and will ensure that everyone will either get the $5 refund (probably as a gift voucher) or a replacement SS base shipped. Always worth raising a ticket anyway.

Last time I checked status of my ticket for replacement s/s deck, they are awaiting supply from manufacturer.

There are to date 360 tickets submitted to Fasttech for replacements.

   ... I won't be holding my breath then .. Ah well, as long as it performs OK with the chromed brass base, I'll manage until the SS replacement arrives.

Just noticed that Fasttech have added a note under the Taifun GT description ... Starting 12/11/2013, we are shipping this item with stainless steel deck.

So if your's has been dispatched since Wednesday 11th, it looks as though your's will come with the SS deck.

Mine arrived today. Haven't set it up yet but snapped a few shots as it looks better than I expected.

My FT version arrived yesterday, think the VB version is a different manufacturer so maybe no brass/chrome issues with it.

The one I have was dispatched on 02/12 so am hopeing its the SS deck. Edit, got confused with the US date Duh! guess I've got brass then.

Got to say that for £13 ish delivered its amazing value for money, easy to set up, and works very well.

What did you go for in the end? I'm keen to get a feel for the width of silica (2mm x 2 strands etc.) needed to get good performance.

Hi djs,

I've only done one build on it so far so no expert, but followed a Utube vid that I tried to find but can't see it now.

I went for three layers of 2mm Sylica and four wraps of .02 Kanthal, once screwed onto the deck one layer of 2mm Sylica layed across the top of the coil then screwed on the cap. Not saying its the best way but seems to work wel for me.
