Watching Mr Mandela's release on c4, what a hero for his people and the people of SA.
I know theres a small number of people who consider him a terrorist, after and with mrs thatcher's (et al) stance; but IMO the definition of terrorist was (with hindsight) clarified by Mr Mandela.
His (is) was the fight against an enforced inequitable ideology, the modern terrorist being for an as yet to be enforced desired ideology, undesired by the proletariat.
So Mr Mandela was not a terrorist but an ideologist who achieved (eventually) his brethren's ideology. An equitable and democratic distribution of power without reprisal. Without reprisal.
Without reprisal.
God bless you, history will judge you well.

Technically, he *was* a terrorist, no matter how the media try to dress it up. However he was also a man who lived and breathed for his beliefs and that is a quality that should be admired. Might mot be popular, however its my opinion. Feel free to flame away...

Big thread already down there vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv fagin... as Blownupdolly mentioned in that thread, it should be kept for messages of respect, and if anyone wanted to debate anything about his life they should start another thread. So, with that in mind, and in reply to the OP in this thread... The legacy that I've seen today are the interviews on the news with the very young, beautiful, coloured kids (and I use that word with the utmost respect. How else can I describe who I mean?). They were all so articulate, mature, and using words that most of our own kids wouldn't recognise. Regarding the 'T' tag, he used sabotage of the infrastucture of an oppressive regime, not indescriminate slaughter of innocents. What would anyone of us have done, living under those conditions, if anything... plus he stopped an impending civil war for the sake of all, black and white. We need many more of his like to stop the madness in this world. God bless him.

<<<Regarding the 'T' tag, he used sabotage of the infrastucture of an oppressive regime, >>>
Please remember that, that "oppressive regime" was democratically voted into power by the voting people of South Africa and that apartheid was considered by the South African people to be both necessary and desirable at the time it was put in place.
Yes there was things wrong with it and yes I am glad to see it abolished, but I lived in South Africa for a number of years and I witnessed some horrific things that would have warranted long prison sentences in this country and yet they were just brushed aside in SA. By the by, these acts were committed by Africans.
We live in a different country with different sets of rules and moral values and we have no right to criticize the way other people choose to rule their countries. Past or Present.
After all, we are hardly in a position to hold ourselves in high democratic value with Scotland clamouring for Independence and Northern Ireland an embarrassment of religious bigotry.
