This raises an interesting question you may be able to answer - what do we say if asked awkward questions about using VG bought from a pharmacy? I asked in our local big Tesco, but they didn't stock it so that avoided that one, but I'm a bit reluctant to say it's for my e-cig juice in case they refuse it 'on health grounds'! Aromatherapy has already been mentioned, and kiddy coughs - are there any other uses we could quote? In the back of my head somewhere there's a little voice saying something about icing for cakes - does this ring a bell with anyone!? To be fair they haven't got a right to refuse sale based on health grounds. I don't think any supermarkets do actually sell VG but if boots (or any other pharmacy) asked you what you were using the VG for, you have every right to tell them it's none of their business since it is an item readily available without a prescription and isn't stored behind the counter. Also if you did tell them it was for making your own e liquid they still have no grounds to refuse sale since it isn't an illegal activity. If for whatever reason they decided to refuse to sell you VG I would ask to speak to the manager, if that didn't resolve the issue then they wouldn't be getting my custom anymore. The other way of doing it is order online www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-LITRE-VEGETABLE-GLYCERINE-EP-FOOD-COSMETIC-GRADE-KOSHER-/161112924693?pt=UK_BOI_Medical_Lab_Equipment_Lab_Supplies_ET&hash=item2583142215 £1.17 per 200ml plus free shipping

There was a time when Chemists got very mardy if you asked to buy VG or PG, so I guess the hesitation stems from past attitudes. If saying that it's for Aromatherapy purposes avoids creating a scene, then it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Though most chemists have their VG stocks on open display with the cough medicines, so the issue doesn't even arise.

My apologies Perpetua I overlooked the glycerine in the bakery section since it's very expensive for a very small quantity but you are of course right that they do sell VG (smarty pants!)

I used to use it in home brewing- can be added to a finished (wine) to help reduce harshness and make it feel smoother. Though you might not want to admit having a 'still..

Nah . . . just an attack of the Rom's jordan. But it is a handy wee size if you just want to dilute a ready mix but don't want to get into mixing proper.

Was part of the problem buying VG and PG for a while not because it could be used in bomb making, or did I just dream that

One of the reasons the chemists around here may ask what it is for is it is likely to be for a kids sore throat. With the minor ailments system you can get it free if for a child or you have NHS charges exemption. Gosh, NHS subsidising eliquids production at home and they do not even know it!!!

Ohhhhhhh. In that case, I might get the wife to go get some, lol. With daughter in tow... BTW Brambles, I was in Boots Arbroath the other day buying up 20 100ml glass bottles for my nic base, and they asked what they were for. Had a conversation with the woman about it, and she did ask if I knew the risks with ecigs. I asked if she did, lol. I said, either way, it's got to be a lot healthier than smoking. Was around £6 total, for 20 bottles, 20 child proof caps, and a few syringes. I though that wasn't too bad.

In five years never been questioned, bought in Boots all over the country, have bought up to 6 bottles at a time (you need to stock up before summer as they dont sell it then). MP

Talking of chemists I got grilled today for asking for 2x packets of 'Nytol' I suppose staff are trained to double check and suggest a GP visit for long time sleep disturbance...except my sleep issues are because of my GP meddling with my meds! Its an odd one because I for one, am still at the 'very proud stage' of quitting smoking and would happily announce it from town square, its seems sad to me that vaping is becoming only one step down from the shameful issue of smoking

Boots bon accord centre is where I usually get my VG from...I get 2-3 bottles at a time. No problem. Not hassled. If they do I am straight up with it. Lassies all lovely.... Syringes I buy online. Medicine cups I ask for and normally get free. Glass bottles etc boots or a nice friendly chemist (any probs with chemists in Aberdeen try anderson pharmacy at holburn junction - they are really nice it's just two doors down from the bank. Union st end. They may charge but they have only just stopped me vaping in there )
