Hi all newbie after some advice..brought my first 'high end' rebuildable the other day. Kayfun lite plus, sitting on a SID mod.. Using 0.16 kanthal with 2mm ekowool 1.5 ohms and works best at around 3.7v but does still taste a bit burnt and the taste/flavour isn't great.. What am i doing wrong? Cheers

Sounds like the wick isn't getting enough juice ... perhaps your coil is wrapped too tightly and is crushing the wick or your wick is not touching the base or the wick is blocking the juice feed channels ... there are a multitude of possibilities.

I smetimes get a similar taste from my KayFun.
Not the sharp metalic burnt taste that hurts your throat, but a flavour change that's almost like mouldy socks (with red astaire juice) but then it will go away.
Still not sure myself why it is happening as the microcoil is wicked ok - cotton not too tight or too loose.
Maybe its flavour crud building up then burnig off the coil

Sounds like juice flow/wicking, When I get similar on an ithaka I know it's time to either Open the juice control or it's running out of juice.

You may have burnt you silica , build a new coil try not to overdo the dry burn and add plenty of juice to you silica before building you kayfun up.

Hi. In my experience ekowool does not wick very well in the Kayfun lite and seems to run dry very quickly. I get best results and fantastic flavour using .22 kanthal 5 wraps around a 2.5 ml drill bit making a micro coil and then wicking with cotton. The flavour is amazing although occasionally I still get the odd dry hit when vaping high vg or thick liquids. The best way to cure this is to put your finger over the air hole and take a small quick suck to draw the liquid in. Cures it instantly.
Hope this helps.

You've had lots of responses in your original topic... don't post same topic in several places.

farnell182, I've merged your threads into one . . . you may not have spotted the original responses you received. Hope the excellent advice helps you to sort the issues out, the majority of rebuildables need a little tinkering in my experience to get them working just right.

Sounds like a wicking issue as said above, if you could give some more detail or a pic of what set up you have in it then that would help some more.
As said ekowool is pants, get some 3mm silica and use two strands side by side over the air hole, ensure your not blocking the juice channels by stuffing the wick in.

I find cotton works best on these kinds of atomisers,Even when I completely stuff the wick holes with it still absorbs the juice. I find cotton gives off a burnt taste after vaping 2-3 tanks worth of juice but atleast you can pull it out easy and keep the coil.
Edit: Just remembered,With my Taifun I use cotton wick but then place a piece of ekowool ontop of the coil, works great! Try that.

Best arrangement for the kayfun to avoid dry hits is a microcoil with pure cotton wool. I have 3 setup like this and they all vape beautifully..
If however you'd prefer to stick with silica, the navy nest builds (as found on you tube) are almost faultless.. I've built the navy nests with silica ranging from 1-3mm and also 1mm ekowool, all with varying success..
Favourite setup is doing a double navy nest as shown in the video, but using 1mm silica as opposed to 3mm..using the thinner wick seems to wick that much quicker and give a tastier vape.
Replace the two short pieces of 3mm silica with 6 strands of 1mm silica (so you have all six strands in the coil but three strands coming out each side) and arrange the same as shown in the video. Its a lot more finicky getting the wick into place in the chimney but by god it works!!
Key to the kayfun in my opinion is getting the airflow setup correctly.. if the draw is too loose you don't pull enough juice into the chamber and thus get dry hits, too tight and it will flood. 1/4 turn of the airflow screw can make a big difference!
Only problem with micrcoils is they take a fair bit of power to heat up properly. I'm regularly using 12-14 watts to get the best out of them..
Navy nest however only needs ~8watts to heat up efficiently..
In turn, I find a microcoil to give a warmer vape than a silica build of the same resistance. battery life is also affected..
Hope thats of some help.
