I recently discovered my 18 year old daughter had started smoking, originally this was only when out with her friends. When she came home she smelled of smoke which she explained away saying she stands with her mates when they smoke...my suspicions were aroused but I couldn't find any evidence. However when she started leaving her bedroom window open in December and the essence of stale smoke was lingering upstairs I went a tiny bit ballistic. I was on a sticky wicket having only stopped myself in July so after some thought I decided to allow her to try vaping, I had some 0 nic menthol juice that had come as a freebie so I started a new iclear16 and let her try it. She loved it. So we found her a shisha pen starter kit on myepack and got more 0 nic stuff and so far not only is she happy but she's got 2 of her friends off the ciggies too. I have to say its a really cute little kit with 2 Kanger esmart clearomisers in cherry red and matching batteries.
But I can't help feeling I've played into the hands of the anti vaping crowd. Obviously my concern was to get my daughter off cigs as quickly as possible before the addiction took hold properly. If I'd have come down on her like a ton of bricks and said no smoking ever, anywhere, not only would I have been a tiny bit hypocritical she would have simply carried on. So now we have 3 teenagers vaping who think it's the height of cool, possibly tempting their non smoking friends to join them...aaaagh, I can see both sides but my responsibility is to my daughter, she and her mates were already using the evil weed. It doesn't help when half the cast of popular tv shows are seen out with pretty little shisha pens in their hands. So for now I will continue buying her juice for her to make sure she stays at 0 nicotine until the novelty wears off, by which time hopefully she won't be tempted back to stinkys...

Yes she is an adult, a fact I sometimes forget, and so are the majority of her friends. I suppose the best you can do sometimes is point them in the right direction and hope...especially when it's something you did yourself for many years lol

I gave my oldest Son (19 year old ) an ecig because he had started smoking the odd fag, that was about 3 months ago, for the last month he hasn't touched either. The ecig replaced the odd fag but then after he kept forgetting to recharge he gave up on ecig too, so a win win situation

You didn't give her nicotine. You gave her 0mg/ml and without it she'd be hooked on the stinkies right now Really you were just a responsible parent ...No worse than giving a 15 year old who insists on being promiscuous some contraception and safe sex advice

That's what I'm hoping for with her, I don't think she was smoking more than a few, certainly I couldn't smell it all the time and my nose has become rather sensitive since I stopped smoking cigs, so hopefully the enthusiasm will wear off when the next fashion item pops up (and then I'll nick her kit as a back up)... Evil mother..

Now that is true @johanino, I hadn't thought of it like that, thankfully we haven't had the promiscuity issue...well not that I ever knew about anyway lol

I think that you have certainly done the right thing.
I'm afraid to report that so-called "Shisha pens/sticks" are gaining popularity in a frightening way. Kids are buying them on Amazon and ebay (thanks guys..) and next year I fear we will see a lot of bad press about the same kids swapping zero nic fruits for nic fruits. It will happen (possibly) and we will all pay the price (probably).
8 of the girls in my daughter's class (of 24?) have them and they are a craze at one local school. Owning/carrying one has also been banned at another.
I hope that most don't go on to use nicotine e-cigs, but if the cost of the invention of e-cigs is some youngsters take up e-cigs rather than tobacco then I think that is actually a good thing.
I hope that makes sense.

The anti vaping brigade are using kids as an excuse, but surely, better they buy eshisha type ecigs than fags & getting hooked as we all did. Just wish they wouldn't make them bright colours to make them look funky & 'cool'.

I know jess they are so cute, my daughter's is about half the size of my iclear and itaste vv3, in cherry red with gold bits, I'm quite jealous lol, though her battery is only about 300Ah. As you say, very attractive to kids, and we will suffer as a result. She can keep her choice of flavour though...bubblegum...yuk! Though I prefer that wafting from her room than cig smoke...

LOL So you'll gladly pinch it for a back up, but with your own flavour choice, tmg.

I am so pleased this topic has come up as I have been in a similar situation but with a friend's daughter who started smoking some time ago. My non-smoking friend had done everything possible to stop her smoking but nothing has worked and their relationship was deteriorating. It really troubled me to suggest she tried zero nic e-cigs because I knew this is playing into the ANTZ hands but it really is better for her to be using these than smoking cigarettes. I think you have done the correct thing.
