Hi all I'm considering raiding my ISA and treating myself to a tablet. But which one!? I've spent an hour reading reviews from Cnet, TechRadar, and various others, but am still not sure which one to seriously think about. I want something which is fairly future-proof (I know there's no such thing with technology, but I can but wish!), and it's then a trade-off between price and make/functionality. I would like 32gb storage, as otherwise I'll spend half my time deleting apps to free up space. I would like expandability if possible, but am not bothered about 3/4G phone - that's what I have my iPhone4S for!! Screen size is not too critical, but I would like to keep the price down if at all possible. So, all you tech-heads out there - what would you recommend, and most importantly, what do you use, and what's the best and worst thing about it in your opinion. On my list at the moment are the Nexus 7 and the iPad Mini, but these are only there because everyone rates them in the reviews! I would welcome your guidance, as ever AndyB

Andy Have a look at the gadget show website. Only saying this because they did a value for money piece on them not so long ago. Cannot remember what came on top but it might give you some idea on what's what. Sorry cannot be any more helpful.

I guess the first decision is apple or android. If you choose apple the rest of the decision process is much reduced. If android, then there's hundreds of tablets to choose from. Nexus / Samsung will come out on top of the reviews. The second decision is screen size. 7" tablets are cute and portable and all the range. But - I chose 10" mainly because my old eyes struggled a bit on a 7" screen. I ended up buying a cheapish (£120) android non-branded tab and it's done me perfectly for surfing and e-reading. Good luck!

I'd recommend an iPad without hesitation. I use the original ipad1 all the time and it's still flawless. I bought my wife the latest last Chrimbo and hers is significantly better than my old one. Yes there expensive but they work and they work very well. I notice you already have an iPhone which is another reason to go with the iPad, you'll get total integration between the two devices so anything you have on one you can have on the other. Unless you want to use it a lot away from home where there is no wifi signal then save some money and get a wifi only version. If I was buying another I'd probably get 32 gig version as you can store most of your music etc in the cloud and play from there if you have a half decent broadband connection. I cant comment on any other tablets as I've not used any. I wouldn't buy the mini though as I think it's too small a screen, if you have man apple store near by pop in and compare. Hope that helps.

My daughters have ipad minis, one for this xmas. I wouldn't want one though. They love them and the phones. You are considering buying at a great time for bargains, they are almost chucking them at customers. I like Android. I use Samsung phone, pc and tv. The Tablet 3 is really good value as they are all doing deals on them out there. The quality of screen on the I minis is amazing I have to admit. Depends what you want it for really.

OneDay - I've had both OS in the past, and even now can't decide whether I want the flexibility of Android or the quality of Apple Greg - Yes, I take your point about being able to sync the iPhone and iPad - but see above ^^ @zero - I'm hoping to get a good deal!!

I HATE apple. Proper HATE them with a passion. iTunes was programmed by the devil himself it is sooooooo bad.
S0, when I was looking for a tablet to take offshore earlier this month, I bought the new iPad mini. Because it is so futureproof. I have a 3 year old android tablet and it is essentially dead now.
But I use Media Monkey to load tuneage etc... onto my ipad.

www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=TB-011-OT&groupid=959&catid=1882It has very similar specs to the kindle fire HD and the nexus 7 and is much cheaper than both. Can take up to a 32gb micro sd card so you would have 40gb storage in total, quad core dedicated graphics, a dual core processor and an IPS screen I think this is one of the best value for money tablets on the market and it runs like a dream.

I also have a 2 year old Xoom 1. Battery life is beginning to suffer, but otherwise totally fine. (£219). I bought my Missus a Samsung Galaxy tab in October. She loves it. (£229). If I was buying tomorrow, for myself, I'd get yet another Android one. Needless to say, Princess DJS has an iPad.

I would say depends what ecosystem you are invested in. Got an iphone with loads of paid apps get an iPad, got an Android phone with loads of paid apps get an Android (nexus 7 are supposed to be stonking bits of kit)
