With New Year upon us I would like to share a personal experience with my friends about drinking and driving. As you may know some of us have been known to have brushes with the authorities from time to time on the way home after a "social session" with friends. Well two days ago I was out for an evening with friends and had more than several beers followed by a couple of bottles of some rather nice red wine. Although feeling jolly I still had the sense to know that I might be slightly over the limit. That's when I did something that I've never done before - I took a cab! Sure enough on the way home there was a police roadblock but since it was a cab they waved it past and I arrived home safely without incident. This was a real surprise, as I had never driven a cab before, I don't know where I got it and now that it's in my garage I don't know what to do with it. So if you want to borrow it do please give me a call, you can have it with pleasure!!!

Great story deesigner but please, anyone out there, don't take the risk. Have a drink at home, or if you do need to go out, please take a cab... NOT Dee's... and enjoy the festivities, guilt free! You know it makes sense.

It is very relevant when people's lives can be shattered at this time of year. You put it in a humorous way, and I just hope people get the message.

I was driving home at close to midnight one Christmas Eve after seeing a girlfriend at the time and I hit a load of detritus in the middle of the M5, a bit further down the road was a smashed up BMW parked across the hard shoulder. I pulled up in front of the car and got out to talk to the guy who was standing shellshocked next to his wrecked car. A nurse pulled in behind and it was obvious the guy was drunk.
When we were talking to him I saw he had a child seat in the back of his car that fortunately was empty. The nurse had already called the police, I didn't have a phone at the time.
The panic set in as the cop car pulled up and he was arrested, he was too drunk to run off.
That was one hard lesson for him and one ruined Christmas for his family but it could easily have been a much worse for his family! It was a good lesson for me too that a good night out can change your life for a long time if you are stupid enough to want to drive after a few drinks so I never have.
