Tried several times now and the reading is settling at 1.1,i guess that is what i deduct or does it seem too high? When the meter is on the lowest ohms and no leads are touching it reads 1,is this right, sorry for being a pain in the butt and thanks for the help. Mine is 0.8, so 1.1 isn't outlandish It reads 1 (not 1.0, just 1, to the left of the display) when there is no connection. That's right 1 sorry.I just tested a 2.8 coil and it read 4.0 so i guess it is ok.Thanks all.

btw I think these things are a pain, or at least mine is. The last digit (after the decimal point) thrashes around so I can't read it half the time. So I mostly just use it to get an idea of what the res is, and make sure I have a connection which isn't a short, just before I trim the tails on the coil and connect it all to my vamo.

I hate multimeters with a vengeance, took me two hours just to find the option of how to get a beep sound when pressing a tactile button to make sure it's only beeping when it's pressed

My B&Q multimeter reads 0.2 ohm for about 10 seconds and then settles at 0.1 ohm ... great piece of kit!

Funny thing the symbol just underneath it should of gave it away, it's a symbol of a speaker

You have to make sure that you have a good contact with the coil wires. I place the coil on one of those craft cutting mats and put the probes about 5mm from the coil, press down with reasonable pressure. The meter should stabilize quite quickly, but it does depend on the quality of the meter. If the meter will not zero when the probes are touched together, just subtract the value from your reading.

Some multi metres are like compasses, you need to know it's error before adding/deducting.
