It's a diesel, 2.0 140bhp (originally!) I have bigger fuel injectors, decat, stage three race turbo and so on, it can do 60mpg if i'm careful, or outpace BMW 535ds if I'm being stupid! I nearly sold it over xmas as I wanted a BMW 330 coupe but I'm so attached to it *blush* I'm very attached to mine too, even if it does look like a tip and your right, the fuel economy is great. I think mine was originally 110bhp but the wee Fabia is 130 bhp, probably another reason I'm not allowed near it, it's a lot of horses to hit a wall with In all honesty though, mine really is built like a tank, there should be many more dents than there are forgive me if I have no idea about fuel injectors and decats though, I should probably but out now and leave the guys to this conversation, lol! I am really SURPRISED you didn't mention the colour or the name of your car.

So do I It's my pride and joy - Skodas are awesome cars That's my baby! I've done soooo much to it, it's running 270bhp and upsets balding men in Mercs when I put my foot down! Going for even more power this year Some people express their selves with tattoos, writing etc.. I express myself by modifying my car and it's an extension of my personality I'd like to see that super skoda outrun the new Mercedes S63 i'm talking about stuff like E320s and so on! It's not really going to contend with 600+ bhp now is it lol. i30s are good cars! Re the Escort I liked that shape one, the three door, like 1996ish? They did a 4x4 version of that too.

I love cars and always have (my old man used to Hill climb with a frogeye Sprite) I've had a lot of French hothatches, a lot of turbo jap stuff and big Na engines. Back on the NA with a V6 Mondeo at the mo. Not the quickest car but nippy and reliable. At 20mpg is not the worst economy either ;-)
Had a diesel once and at 110bhp it was utterly gutless but cheap to run.
Feeling the urge for boost again so may go petrol turbo again next.

A big plus 1 for the Skoda Octavia .... I taxi'd one (1.9 tdi) for 6 years from new and put 300,000 miles on it .... never let me down once in all that time although I did keep on top of maintenance every 12,000 miles ... looked after properly, they just go on and on. When I retired a couple of years ago, I gave it to my grandson and it is still going strong although he is only doing about 8,000 miles a year on it. I now have one of the new 1.2 tsi Octavias and it is a fantastic turbo petrol engine ... great fuel economy and sufficient oomph for my style of driving with 119bhp.

I quite like cars. Currently own a BMW 530d, Passat 1.9 TDI and a 4.6 V8 Range Rover P38. Did have a 335d before the 530d though, and doubt your little Skoda would have kept up, lol. It had a cheeky remap to 360 BHP mind you. Just awaiting the ECU on the 530d to be cracked so I can give it a cheeky remap too. Used to be a big VAG fan though. Having had a few Golf GTI's, V6 4motions, S4's, and a few A4's. Here are some pics of the fleet, current and old... 530d: IMG_1715 by xs2man, on Flickr Range Rover: 335d: A4, S4, other motors: V6 4motion: Golf GTI & A3:
Another of the GTI: Have had many more, but that's a few of them...

The quickest car I had was a modified MR2 turbo. Gas flowed head, ceramic turbo, induction and exhaust/decat and adjustable boost. Was owned by a Jap racing team before they went bust and liquidated and was exported to the UK apparently. On full boost that car didn't half shift but drank Optimax down like it was going out of fashion (around 10mpg) Stonkingly quick though, bit shit to drive with hard suspension, but it was a mentalist car all the same. I never did any of the work myself, it was already done when I bought it but it was very quick, still scared me driving it after a year of ownership lol It was certainly a lot quicker than my previous lard bucket of fatty sloppiness 300 ZX Twin turbo Most of my French hatches were fettled with as well (although not T/C or S/C because of reliability) Always liked the French cars for great handling (and the lift off oversteer ) and revvy, responsive engines. There's something great about a small N/A engine that loves banging manically into nigh on 7k that big engines and torquey turbos can't match IMHO. Sod small power bands, the rev limiter is the end of the power band and time to change gear and do all the fun again Don't need powerful fast cars for fun, they just need to be point and squirt which is rare nowadays with all the airbags, sensors and warning lights on modern heavy cars. The little French cars had perfect chassis that would still allow you to drive the car hard and use the throttle when you were low on grip because the power matched the chassis. Eventually after many Turbos and NA cars that were tuned I got sick of the whole tuning scene, everything got worse the more power I eeked out, the ride got worse the more I messed with the suspension so I could have more grip. And the noise... Oh yeah a 5" twin exit staninless with decat sounds great at full chat down the high street but 80mph on the motorway the drone was enough to depress me after 5 minutes. So I went all normal and limited myself to a 2.5 V6 to try and get a sensible medium of comfort, reliability, handling, economy and performance without many of the downsides to faster/tuned cars. Ohhh feeling the need for a Caterham or something now... at 41 I must be approaching my midlife crisis now surely?
