ok first OS and Software unless it says so most software works on the 32 bit system... Windows 7 32bit will only run 32 bit programmes, while processor is not effected memory is as it has a max of 4gb Windows 64bit,will run both 32+64 bit programmes difference being if using the 64 bit side it will use the programmes[software] that is designed to work on on it,hence why on motherboard specs always look for max memory it can carry most are 32gb some only 12mb Windows 32bit max memory is 4gb---- problem being Os and Antivirus will eat 60% of it Windows 7 64 bit 192gb---------big difference www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/max-memory-limits-for-64-bit-windows-7/4254------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Graphics only really need anything that will play for Vid editing etc a basic hd spec one should be fine these are around £40-50,high end ones are mainly used for gaming and can cost upto £1000 take the nvidia titan 6gb ddr 5 thats £945

Roscopecotrain agree with most of the above, however if you were ever tempted by SSD, do bear in mind that as with everything they do have a finite life span. Seperate graphics card every time or else you asking your processor to do way too much at once.

Good move on going for a desktop machine, much better bang for your buck than a laptop, plus it's hard to get a laptop with win7 on it now.
I'd suggest that once you have your new machine, wipe your laptop and put a fresh install of windows on it - you'll be surprised at how much better it will run.
