Arghhhhhh...
Why oh why is this thing leaking all the time!

Tried silica, eckowool,mesh,various juices and guaranteed leak at some stage....

Any solutions please....

This is taken from UKVapers by Coops. I don't have a GT at the moment but I have one in the post and this is the way I intend to set it up. It also the way I set up my Fogger, which is a very similar build.

Now I'm no expert, but I've found a method that works pretty much every time for me

I use .3 Kanthal, wrapped around a 2mm drillbit, I hold one end parallel to the drillbit and then start to wrap around the smooth chuck end of the bit, after every couple of wraps, just give the coils a squeeze together, (.3 is thick enough to hold its shape, so if you take your time you can wrap an almost perfect microcoil without needing to torch it to set the coils) the most important thing while wrapping is to make sure the coils don't overlap.

I use 12 wraps which always give me 2.3 ohms final resistance (give or take). So I'm guessing this gives .2 ohms resistance per wrap, therefore, 10 wraps will give you +/- 2.0 ohms, 9 will give you +/- 1.8 etc. I always coil over 2 ohms on my daily use atties, as I find this gives the best trade off between vapour, taste, warmth and battery life at my chosen wattage sweet spot (8.4w).

Once you've got a reasonable looking coil, keep the drillbit in and fit the coil to the GT, screw the terminals down with the bit still in (this stops the coil deforming while tightening, a top tip). To finish the coil, make sure it is not in contact with either the terminal posts or the air tube then remove the drillbit carefully, check resistance, then fire the coil, it should light up from the centre outwards, once it's red hot, to compress it correctly, I use a pair of pliers, heat til red, stop firing it and then squeeze the coil together while it cools, don't touch the coil with anything metallic while your firing the coil, it will blow!!!

Once your happy with the coil, I take a piece of cotton wool approx 2" long and approx 10mm wide (it's hard to describe a 'correct' amount but the 10mm wide is uncompressed and still 'fluffy'). With clean hands (important as the oil on your skin can taint the cotton wool and cause wicking problems) roll it gently until its just wide enough to look like a good fit. I compress roll about 5mm at one end to aid getting it through the coil, once you've got something you can pull through, gently pull through while turning it, almost a screwing motion, once fitted,trim to size. On the GT I leave 3-5mm outside the coil housing either side. Prime the wick with your chosen juice (UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES FIRE THE COIL AND WICK DRY - it will ruin it and the taste cannot be described, it really is that bad) do a small test fire to make sure everything is still working, you should end up with something that looks like this,


The first one I did, I'll take some pictures of the current one when I re wick.

Then fit the chamber top cap, again, there's a trick here, screw it down slowly, making sure you don't deform the o'ring, you can see this at the top of the wick slots, if you start to see a U of o'ring, it's deformed and will leak. I don't screw the cap right down tight, but usually leave a tiny gap. (It is a tiny gap, literally just one thread short of tightened right down, just to ensure the o'ring isn't trapped anywhere)

Fluff the ends of the wick to fill the slots, wet them with juice, then fill the tank and away you go. I usually give a couple of primer puffs.

The advice about gurgling given above is great, if you're getting constant leaks through the air intake, you'll need to check the chamber cap and the wick in the slots. Something else to be wary of, is going from cold to very warm environments, this may cause a leak but can be easily solved by turning the atty upside down until the temperature equalises.

I rewick after every two tanks or when changing flavours, using ordinary Boots 100% cotton wool pleat. Doesn't seem to taint the flavour opposed to organic cotton wool or silica, for me the flavour is instant, with no break in period at all.

It really is an epic vape when you get a microcoil right, I wouldn't use anything else in mine now.

How much wick?

I have 6mm in mine. Plugs those gaps beautifully.
