Hi all.
Have a vapesafe 2 (reuseable) and was using it on mech mod, tried a couple of different juices today and deceided to rebuild coil whilst there. Went to dry fire and nothing...no power. Checked wrap, and no shorts. Tried 2 different 18350's one aw one efest...nothing! Took out vapesafe and it fired. Could the vapesafe be the problem..ie broken or such?is there a way of telling?
Using taifun gt clone on a converted pipe mod, silica wick with 4 wraps of .30 (1.2 on multimeter)
Any ideas?

Im assuming a vapesafe is like a like a fuse? So going on that if your atty was drawing to much current from battery it would blow the fuse not the battery. Hence Vapesafe.

The vapesafe has a finite amount of uses, it can trip quite a few times before it fails but they do fail

From the official vapesafe siteSounds like you have the vapesafe 1, as version 2 resets Oops crossed posts - if the version 2 has reset too many times your getting too many shorts, you really need to invest in a decent multimeter to check your coils & possibly your batteries.

]Its a vapesafe 2 (resets) Have multimeter, tested coil at 1.4 ohms, and battery (not fully charged) at 3.87 volts. Could the mod itself (not atty) affect the circuit?

Yep sorry my bad about the multimeter. Mods are usually the last port of call for shorts, but if you can wouldn't hurt to strip it down & make sure everything's as it should, without knowing the mod can't really help any further on that, & same with the atty & maybe go over your batteries really carefully make sure all the insulating wrap is intact.

Does the vape safe only work with a set range of resistance .. Like a kick ... Maybe 1.4 ohms is too low ... Just a thought

You have a Multimeter so check across the Vapesafe with it and measure the resistance. Probably find it is open circuit or high resistance. The PTC fuses are not infallible and looking at the size of the one one they use imagine the max fault current it can cope with is 10 to 40 amps max. Some lithium batteries being shorted can easily supply this as a peak current and will thermally stress the PTC fuse and take it into its critical area. Even with lower currents and just tripping under normal circumstances they can degrade after 20 trips or so.
Anyway, as you have multimeter you can easily test it.

Just a thought They're rated on amps & the version 2 is 6A with continuous draw of 3.5v so even with a 1.4 coil on a full battery of 4.2v there should still be breathing room, but the problem is a hard short can pump out a lot more then 6A causing permanent damage to the fuse
