I'm a night owl & an insomniac, not unusual for me to still be up at 5am & I get up at anything between 9 & 11, usually after very little sleep. I do like early mornings too, obviously, as I see them regularly. I'll happily get up early & after only a coupla hours in bed, if there's a need. Nothing like an early morning on a super sunny Summer day!

Frustrating innit, sammy13? I'm just thankful I have a friend in Florida, with the time difference, it does help pass the night, gabbing on Skype.

I've never been a morning person, and used to stay up into the wee small hours. Don't stay up so late these days, but I do still like a lie in. Luckily I only have to use the alarm clock for one day a week now, but that's one day too many, and I can never get a proper sleep that night.

Blimey, there's a lot of people on here who seem to be able to get by on just a few hours sleep ??? How on earth do you cope? I get the odd night when I can't stop waking up, luckily they're few and far between, but they turn me into a monster My hubby has problems sleeping and rarely gets a full nights sleep but somehow he manages to get by, he can also sleep for England at the weekend! I'm very jealous of those of you who can go back to bed for a lie-in, I just can't do it

I would give a great deal to get a good nights sleep, but due to pain it is impossible. I am only speaking for myself here, not the other posters, but many days I am awake and up, but fit for nothing really just struggling through, so so tired unable to concentrate , I may as well be in bed, but I can not sleep through the day, I would be laid there thinking I have things to do, even though whilst awake due to tiredness or pain I am able to do nothing anyway. It's a viscous circle.

I can't imagine how you cope sammy13, poor you, gentle hugs from me x I've had sleepless nights in the past due to pain from a back problem and it was awful. I'm so glad it was only temporary, I'm really not sure I could put up with it constantly. Do you manage to get any relief from analgesics? A friend of mine had terrible constant pain in her shoulder for years following a car accident. The pain wouldn't respond to any pain killers. She was very lucky when her doc sent her for therapy at a pain clinic. I went with her and they explained it was a problem with nerve malfunction, her nerves were transmitting the wrong signals to her brain. The clinic was brilliant, she stayed there for a week and she had various classes which helped her learn how to control the nerve impulses. Her pain became much easier to deal with and she eventually managed to control it completely. It's quite scary that your own body can torture you like that!

Used to be an early bird but the internet and winter's long dark hours have turned me into a night owl. There's always something to read or search for. I'm always up by midday though

I can't take any strong painkillers unfortunately ( codeine, ibuprofen, tramadol, ametriptalyine, morphine ) so for me it is just paracetamol. I have permanent damage to the top of my spine @ c5, and the bottom , plus I have m.e , plus I have chrones, and a dodgy heart rhythm, and un-operable nerve damage to my right arm. Apart from that I am fit and healthy despite the glaucoma, copd, and general ra. If one thing isn't keeping me awake the other is. Apparently I am fit to work though, so all is good.
