A Ce4 in the microwave seems to be a no-no too Why would you?....... Don't you like lightening? It's quite exciting. I first realised the beauty of the microwave when I stuck a plate in that had this gold colour around the edges, though it was just paint, turns out it had metal in it lol

The colour changed remarkably but its functionality has been seriously diminished

This doesn't work on a protank 2, just thought I'd add that lol. Daft thing falls apart and looks like it's been in a war zone You need to take it apart and remove the o'rings....before heating.....lol

If I knew what to glue it with I'd glue it.

By the sounds of it it's a suck-it-and-see process. As long as we test it on philmepowers mods first we'll be ok.

Tell you what I've just realised seniorphil, when you screw the base on that the coil head goes into it actually holds the whole thing together so even with the butt coming loose it would actually still work. Mine looks sick with a black plastic drip tip lol, need a pretty messy looking mod to finish the look off though

Their seems to be a real shortage of info on this process on the web. I have some great descriptions e.g- www.bssa.org.uk/topics.php?article=140I've tried searching for Tempering, Blueing, Heat Colouring, oxidising, oxidizing, and many more. Most searches resulted in special offers on Beko or Creda ovens. Loads of vids on torching, yet I haven't seen a good one on kiln/ovens. I've even tried binning Google and using other search engines. Am I using the wrong terminology? Loads of places say it is easier to get an even finish, but no vids/tutorials. I would love to watch someone messing up before I follow them.

In theory it'd be easier to get an even finish but an oven isn't hot enough, you need to get the metal red hot or pretty dam close, it also has to be the right grade of steel I reckon. The solid base part of the protank is blue no bother but the rest just went weird.

The solid base part of the protank is blue no bother but the rest just went weird. The oven I'll be using is designed for enameling. It's not strictly a kiln which normally go up to thousands of degrees, but it's still capable of 3 times the temp of a kitchen oven. I don't think my home oven would get anywhere near the blue colours. The place I'll be using it can't get insurance for it, so it's out in the carpark. Their is often somebody blowing something up or torching something out there.

Rough neighbour hood? It will be when we're finished! Hackspace is full of prop makers, artists, model makers, inventors and hackers/wonders. wiki.london.hackspace.org.uk/view/London_HackspaceWith the weird and wonderful happening on a daily basis they won't bat an eyelid at our shenanigans. I am speaking to a blacksmith down there in Tuesday, he's done it before, hopefully with that oven.
