Hi I'm pretty new to vaping and need a little advice I have a couple of Xtar protected 18650 2600 mah cells from a LED torch they have been very lightly used and was wondering if they are similar to the AW 18650's and can be used in the same mods, they measure 18.4 x 69 mm. I have been told by a vape shop owner that the chemistry is different and they are inferior cells. Thanks

They must say something else on them? 18650 2,600 is all OK, but are they black ended with purple or blue with silver tube sections?

They can be used but IMR safe chemistry batteries like the AW or Efest with their low internal resistance and high current discharge characteristics are better suited for vaping.

Hi they are black and have a white disk around the positive post, they have a silver sticker with blue writing. OK, more research needed. I suspect they are bog standard un-protected 18650 Li-ion. Might be useable. NOT in a a mechanical, for sure.

You should be able to see if they are protected. If you hold them to the light and look at the bottom there will be a sort of criss cross pattern if they're protected. the criss cross pattern is the protection circuit.

Thanks for the information, the Xtars are protected but as they may not be suitable for vaping it looks like I'll have to purchase either AW or Efest 18650 that are designed for mods.

Shakka D if they're PROTECTED batteries they should be good for mech mods rather than electronic ones
