Well fed up.
Bought a 2nd hand car just over a year ago. Knew I was paying over the odds, but went ahead anyway.
Well, have decided to get rid as it's a pain in the winter. Starts great, just slips & slides (apparently something to do with rear wheel drive & the car is quite lightweight).
Anyway, have searched around for another 2nd hand car & after seeing many cars, have eventually found one that appears to be in great condition & isn't too badly priced. Unfortunatly, the garage dosen't really want my car & has offered me £400, which means in a year I've lost quite a bit of money.
I haven't got a garage to store it in & can't afford to keep 2 cars on the road, so have decided to take his offer as I pretty much want rid before the insurance is due & before winter sets in.
So scary how much money you can actually lose on car purchases. Pretty gutted aswell to be honest.

If I had a garage that I could store it in until it sold privately, I would keep it. Unfortunatly, I can't do that, so this seems the only option.

I had a rear wheel drive car, and a bag of cement in teh boot did the job for the extra weight come winter. Another option would be contacting a storage company and rentign a cheap container for a fe wmonths and store it in there (I did that for 2 years with my car), or if you have a local council, contact them adn see if they have any garages for rent. I hoep you get it sorted out either way in the best way possible Hissie

What a PITA hissie. It's always the same with cars, unless they're classic, from the second you buy them, they depreciate. Even brand new ones. Garages are well known to be rip off merchants, we've had the same with part exchange too. Don't you have a drive you could keep it in? We have an untaxed car up our drive with a cover chucked over it.

Hissie, you could try selling it via a classified ad on eBay.

My driveway will be home to the new car Anne. Can't leave it on the road as people/children in the area I live have no respect for other peoples' property.
The main issue with selling the car privately is it's a convertable & it's totally the wrong time of year to get a decent price. Great time to buy a convertable, not so good when you have one to sell.
Tried selling it a couple of months ago on ebay, no offers. Re-listed it & lowered the price still nothing. Also, I hadn't actually found a replacement car, so in some respects was glad it didn't sell at that time.
I'm slowly coming to terms with loosing so much money on it. Just got to hope the hardtop & other accessories sell well.

Hissie, If you have a hardtop too it may sell well even at this time of year? That price seems awful low that they have offered you? what kind of car is it?

It's a Mazda MX5 milo. However, it's 1996 plate, so not really what franchised/independent garages are looking for. Unfortunatly for me, due to finances, storing problems I can't afford to hold onto it & there's no garuntees I'd get much more for it selling it privately.
Also, I'll probably get more money selling the hardtop & acessories seperate (strange I know).

I have a rear wheel drive truck and it's excellent in the snow, especially when I pull that little lever near the gear stick and the front axle kicks in! On a more serious note, is your mx5 an import. It might explain more why he didn't offer you a good deal for it.

I can barely cope with getting a petrol cap off, so forgive me for not being able to add anything of any worth to you Hissie.

No Blue it's not an import. In some case import MX5s go for more money bizarrely enough.
Tis ok perpy, I just started this thread out of sheer frustration lol.
