haha fiddles I'm not really panicking. I knew that article was wrong, but I just wanted to point out yet another negative stab at the e-cig by the media. I've read enough statements by Dr Farsalinos, and heard him speak on Vapour Trails to know that vaping with VG or PG & nicotine is a damn sight better than smoking

You'll be OK. (We'll be OK) Not so sure about the 5 charges? 5 cartomisers? E-Lites say that is like 3,467 cigarettes, so I take the point.

I can translate that for you mike if you want to know what it says.
Basically it says, the was pneumonia caused by deposits of vg on the lungs that impaired proper breathing like another case featured in the journal Chest. According to experts (unnamed) the vg obstructs the lungs/breathing areas. According to Carmen Montero cheif of the broncology department at the Hospital of Caruna, there is no doubt "lipid pnuemonia could not come from another source, other than nasal drops or from medications that contain glycerine, but this is not the case here" There's a response from Spanish vapers saying that they've been used for ages though, why aren't there more cases this doesn't seem representative etc.
The director of the Spanish association for thoracic surgeons says, there will be more cases soon if people keep using E-cigs. Then there's a bit about nicotine being bad for the heart I think, I didn't properly read that.

The Spanish patient was 50 years old and was a heavy smoker.
Why was he originally taken into hospital. That article implies he vaped in hospital but smoked fags before. What was his medical history prior to admission?
Looks like they're using this to justify further, the attack on vaping...probably supported by the fag companies.

You can't get lipoid pneumonia from VG, but you can get it from vegetable oil. The guy could have been vaping something with vegetable oil in it, and if he vaped a lot of it that could be the cause. References here (talking about the other death referred to in the article, which was in Germany) and here

Yeah I wasn't that impressed with it either. I read it in the Spanish press a week or so back and didn't have to look far to see it debunked, from an article someone posted on here I think.
A few Spanish vapers have left comments under the El Mundo piece, disputing it and linking to a counter article.
@zero All the original El Mundo article says is that he was admitted with a cough and difficulties breathing and that he'd smoked for ten years, nothing more than that, unless I missed something.

I might be wrong here but I didn't think oils would be vapourized at the temperature of a normal e-cig coil..and isn't the "smoke point" temperature lower than the temperature it would take to vapourize oil? I think you'd know about it if you were inhaling vegetable oil smoke.

I think you'd know about it if you were inhaling vegetable oil smoke. Does your coil get hot enough to boil oil? I'd think so, at least sometimes. And probably you'd get some vapour off it before it reached the boiling point. I guess whether you could tell would depend on the proportion of it in the vape. We know that you can get lung damage from cooking oil fumes - for instance this. Best avoid vaping anything with oil in it, and not just because it gunks up the coils.
