I am so hoping some of you very nice people can shed light on my problem, so here goes. A few years ago I tried unsuccessfully to give up the dreaded weed I used a 901 the one where you filled the cart wading (mouthpiece) with juice. I vaped mostly tabacco juice in 18 and 24mg strength with no problem. So here I am trying once again and with a real determination to succeed this time only problem is with each inhale I now cough and splutter and so is making it very difficult to use the e-cig. This never happened before. I am using tabacco and flavoured 18mg juice and because of problem also purchased a few flavoured 11mg juice. Thought the lower strength would help with the coughing but it didn't. I use a Riva 1100 and also a Vison Spinner along with different clearomisers and also cartomisers. I would love to get the 30 analogs either greatly reduced or stopped as I know I don't want to carry on using them but I really need the e cig to help. Thanks to all who read this.

hi and welcome beasmyth - you can do it are you using the same type of eliquid ? - maybe you want to experiment with different vg/pg ratio - joosejuice let's you easily do that - I doubt that it is the nicotine strength - as 18mg seems to be about right for a 30 a day habbit drink also loads of water maybe your clearomiser needs to be cleaned - it sounds strange that you don't cough when you smoke but cough when you vape - no worries we will find your problem and solve it

You could try a 100%vg juice as it is a lot softer on the throat. You might try some other flavours as well as tobacco flavours often have more of a throat hit than say fruit flavours. With the spinner you can lower the voltage, I don't know what ohm rating your clearos etc are, but it sounds like you want a high ohm and low volts at least in the beginning. The lower the ohm of your clearomiser the more throat hit you will get with the same voltage. The nicotine content does have an effect as well. If you are like me then 11mg is more than enough to get off the stinkies, but many people would find that too low and it is far from the only factor that affects throat hit. Don't give up, there are loads of things you can try

Hello and beasmythTry holding the vapor in your mouth for a moment before you inhale, might help . Also can you check the PG/VG ratio on your e-juice. I suspect it has high PG so one with a higher VG content may suit you better. Also, what setting do you have theSpinner at? You could turn the dial down a bit. Have you any idea what resistance your clearos and cartos are? Lower resistance gives more of a throat hit.

Thanks Clivia and Dragon I was thinking of perhaps having the juice with more VG in it, what would you suggest the ratio be? The only thing is with the 100% VG I would be afraid of no throat hit at all, but its worth looking into. My favourite flavoured juice is Red Astaire, don't think the suppliers do a range of VG/PG in their juices, will have to check. Still looking for some sample flavoured ones to choose from but still think I really do need the tabacco flavour to perhaps satisfy. May be my imagination only. ha ha My Clearomisers are all new ones as the last time I vaped don't think they were on the market, I used the old 901. Thank you guys for your replies I am feeling there is light at the end of the tunnel, will let you know when I get new VG/PG juice and more importantly how I am getting on with it.

Hi Karma, Spinner is set at lowest setting not sure what the resistance is in my clearomisers/cartomisers, although thanks didn't know that about the lower the resistance the greater the throat hit. You learn every day eh. I will order the replacement heads in whatever the highest resistance is. Thanks again guys

If I am telling you something you already know please ignore me, but I handed my basic ego battery with an evod on top to a long term smoker and I thought he was going to choke to death. Vaping is different, you do it differently. I would say that you need the higher strength juice definitely, but perhaps the juice percentage is wrong, or the flavour, or the technique.

I agree with sammy13 here - gave an old ego battery and an evod to an addicted smoker and he coughed horribly - try different atties - might also help - and if you love red astaire but can't get the right ratio - well then to the club

Perhaps it the newer batteries they are probably a lot more powerful than the 901, the last time I vaped (few years ago) I had no problem at all with either battery or the strength of juice and more importantly, no cough. I am quite pleased to be able to now try all the advice given and am quite hopeful between all of us the problem I have will be solved and like you will be able at last to wave bye bye to the stinkes. Thanks again guys for all the help keep it coming. Am now away to look up VG/PG juice, any ideas yet on what ratio to order.

I smoked all sorts over the years. (light, full, filterless, roll-ups). I must admit I struggled with the power/vapour of a "proper" e-cig. I had to completely re-think my inhaling technique. I guess I got the hang of it...

Most commercial juices are around 70/30 pg to vg. Try 50/50 if you can find it.

Will try the 50/50 strength juice as Clivia has kindly pointed in the direction of JooseJuice who thankfully do the mixed ratios, does anyone else know of suppliers who would also sell the 50vg/50pg juice, would be good to have a nice range of flavours etc.

I'm not sure what the mix ratio would be on these, but www.smokerainbow.com/ sells 1ml samples of all sorts of big name brand juices for around 60p each. You can try out a bunch without spending a bunch until you figure out what you like. If you're vaping with the same technique you used when smoking, you're doing it wrong and that's why the cough. Needs to be a sloooooooooooow looooooooooooooong draw into the mouth, not straight into the lungs. Once you've drawn a fair bit into your mouth, THEN you can inhale some into your lungs if ya like.
