Can you not just remove the rubbish first and see if that helps? It could just be one thing affecting performance. Clear prefetch - don't use windows 8 but usually - Computer, C, windows, Prefetch. - Just delete everything in there. Then search for *.tmp , *.bak, and delete everything that comes up there. Delete all photos, videos, music ( except for any you want to keep ) Then run crap cleaner - www.piriform.com/ccleanerYou can run the cleaner, and clean the registry safely. You can also see all installed programmes, and can remove any you know you do not need. Also it may be worth uninstalling adobe, completely it can often mess up. You can always do a fresh install of it after everything is cleaned. Once you have cleaned up, run the cleaner again. It may just do the trick. Also have you run a virus checker?

So I take it, that it came with one of those re-install partition things and that's got corrupted somehow? Didn't it prompt you to make some restore disks at some point?
It annoys me that they don't give people windows disks anymore, it's stupid. If it's under warranty? win 8 machines are still reasonably new I think, I'd complain to the vendor and/or Toshiba and insist they send you out a disk for free. They'll try to say that you must pay for this disk, do not accept that. The software was sold to you when you brought the machine, they have failed to provide you with a reliable method to maintain that software on your machine.
As suggested if you can get a version of win 8, then use your existing serial.

Well said Paolo. It is of course, the biggest con in history. A partition is great, except for when the laptop suffers some sort of HDD failure, which is where the partition is. A tech savvy person could save the O.P. laptop though with any install DVD and the windows code on the chassis. OR, get arsey with Toshiba and demand a set of recovery disks....

one of the biggest cons on lappys is they sometimes do not send the recovery CD,they want you to buy it[as mentioned],this kick starts the partition to reinstal, with out it it wont do it,you could basically if need go back to a later date on system restore then try CCleaner also use the reg cleaner,if use the above link in the cleaner part have these checked[some by default may already be done]
Internet explorer all except last 2 Windows explorer all except last 1 System All except last 2 Advanced all except last 2
if you want to make the lappy speedy get a SSD and put it in there most come with Cloning software

Pretty sure I didn't get Windows 7 disks for some PCs at work when they came last year. Such a ridiculous thing... Would cost them pence to supply which is sod all proportionally to the price of PCs!

I have something with mine, but not a windows disk, I had problems hit a few buttons and ended up doing a complete thingymabob, so it became just like shop bought, it was trial and error though after I got a plain bright green screen looking at me, no words nothing. I'm using a Samsung laptop windows 7. I was going to get rid, but just don't fancy windows 8 at all, not sure why windows 7 isn't readily available anymore

I'm using a Samsung laptop windows 7. I was going to get rid, but just don't fancy windows 8 at all, not sure why windows 7 isn't readily available anymore Win7 is readily available, look at ebuyer, dabs, etc. Also, the installation ISOs are all available from digitalriver, so as long as your COA is intact, download and burn the correct image and you can re-install. For anyone buying a new pc, ALWAYS one of the first things to do is to research how to (for that model) burn the recovery disks fot it, AND DO IT!!! As a first step for anyone trying to clean up a slow pc, work through this:- forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?p=64750112it may take a wee while, but usually gives good results. I'm assuming you have fixed this now teethcv ? If not send me a PM, I'll grab you a Windows 8 iso (virtual disk that you can burn) that you can use with refresh your pc. I have a VLSC subscription through the day job so can get genuine ISO's no problem. Can't share our keys though, sorry!

The quickest way to speed up any windows based PC is to press both the windows key and R together to bring up a prompt. Type msconfig and then choose the Startup tab. The more bumf you can rid of on there the better.
