Frankly, if I can recoil my Protank heads, given my extreme short-sightedness and dithery dexterity, any bugger can. All right, so it might have taken me one or two goes (18) before I got the knack, but now it costs about tuppence for a brand-new coil and wick rather than a couple of quid. Also, once you have mastered the clearo coil, with its teeny, elusive grommet, recoiling RBAs is a breeze. I even managed a dual coil on an Igo the other day, with only a relatively small accompanying rage.

Tell you what does cross my mind. Why, in the post space age, can't anyone build a coil that never burns out? Or have they, and are now languishing in a Chinese prison?

This is my take on this subject and for me, sums it up. You can get an Indian meal for two at Tesco for about a fiver or you can go to an quality Indian restaurant and have a meal. They both do the same job........but one does it a little better. Just my 2 rupees worth. I promise you...I make a better curry than any Indian restaurant. I lived in SE Asia for eight years and learnt the lot. But it would be so much simpler to buy a tesco special, why bother going to the trouble of buying all the ingredients and making your own - touché

...I probably would have happily continued buying protank coils from China as I'm content with my vape (I know no difference) and it's quite cheap - but talk about govt intercepting makes me feel I should attempt coiling more seriously.
So I will tinker, there's no pressure as I can use shop bought. but I'll definitely try d.I.y everything!

and if there was ever a Zombie Apocalypse we would all want to know someone who would step up to the mark and re-coil our clearos You'll be OK Karma. When the day comes, before I get eaten up by all those nasty zombies, I shall post you my remaining stock.

The way I see it is this: you might enjoy taking photos and join a photography forum. There will be folks on there going on about focal lengths and f-stops, but you're happy snapping away with your phone cam. You might enjoy driving, so you join a car forum. There will be in-depth debates about brake-horse-power and which gear ratios are best, but you just want to select your next Ford Focus. Whatever forum you join there will be beginners, spectators, and serious hobbyists. If some want to learn the more technical (and some would say satisfying) aspects then the info is there for them to learn and experiment. If some want to coast along then they are catered for too. Either way, people take as much as they want or need and leave the rest for others.

We can and do, the coil generally will last for ages and ages, it's the wicking material that doesn't. Saying that though if you want to try and go down the mesh coil route, be my guest
