Hi my dad game me a circuit tester today and was wondering if i could use it to check the resistance (ohms) of my microcoils before i had to rebuild the base with coil to be able to check my ohms. My questions please If i put the pos and neg on each leg of the microcoil will it give me the correct reeding ? Ive put up a pic where would i put the pos and neg leads ? And where would be the correct position for the dial to be in ? Sorry but electrics is not my strong point and didnt just want to bin it if it could be used Grandad

Black lead in the com terminal and red lead in VOma terminal. Set the meter to 200 at 6 o'clock position. You could also try it one click to the right on the diode symbol in the red box.

As Greg says... But, meters have an internal resistance. If you touch both leads together you should get a reading(about 0.2 ohms). This reading should then be deducted from whatever reading you get on an atty to get an accurate measure.

Like mine.. I have about 0.9-1.0 ohm touching the probes (which seems a little bit much....but there you go....can't expect perfection for £2.99) I tend to build the head, shove one lead/probe in the tiny air hole and touch the other anywhere (more or less) on the atomizer base.

I measure the coil resistance between the two screws .... Is that not right ?..... I'm not interested in the internal resistance of the battery or mod or meter..... Do I need to do something different ?

Do I need to do something different ? Wherever you measure the resistance from you still need to deduct the meters resistance, or the reading is meaningless. Your just testing for a complete circuit. I do the same as @djs to get the resistance of the whole atty.

Do I need to do something different ? Between screws is fine but the OP asks to check coil before fitting to base. you should be interested in the meter resistance though. If your mater leads measure 1 ohm when shorted like djs said and you then measured your coil at say 1.2 ohm between your base screws then the coil is only 0.2 ohms.

Don't meters compensate for their own resistance / leads etc ?

Straightforward video tutorial here Grandad . . . or alternatively buy a device which does it for you, my preferred choice personally.

Don't meters compensate for their own resistance / leads etc ? no but you can buy higher quality leads to be more accurate but it would then be cheaper to buy a coil tester

Don't meters compensate for their own resistance / leads etc ? Afraid not, try it with yours If you have a decent meter with good quality leads you get get as low as 0.1 ohm but you may also get a lot higher.

Don't meters compensate for their own resistance / leads etc ? Only if you pay a lot for them. You'd think they would have it sorted by now. I use 6 different meters so it's a habit checking.

Just checked mine ... It reads 0.1 ohms with two probes touching .... I'm happy to live with deducting that from coil readings ..
