Wahoooooooooooo. .I'm going to Dublin mid May for a few days. Although I've been a number of times before, I thought I'd see if any of you wonderful folks have any new ideas of where I could go during the day. I think I've been to every imaginable tourist site and one or two more besides. Maybe somewhere of interest that can get on a bus or train to ? Thanks in advance.

I loved the Irish-Jewish museum.
They have a fascinating history, very poignant, and they are so delighted to receive visitors.

There used to be a place called Larry Murphy's across the road from the Fitz poker club, but they've shut down. Other than that...+1 to Temple Bar. If you're happy to get on a bus or train...forget Dublin and head to Cork & Kerry where the real craic is.

If heading Cork way check out the Michael Collins Centre, and obviously in Dublin you have the barracks

I might just do that johnners. I believe it can be done in about an hour and half journey ? I'll certainly look into it properly and thanks for suggestion.

If you get a train, you can get a ticket which covers certain zones so you can jump on and off, wouldn't take you to Belfast, but would be quite interesting. Bray used to be on the line , haven't used it for a while though, maybe one of our Irish members could confirm what the crack is now.

This has got me thinking too, surely there has to be things to do and see in Dublin, other than visit the brewery, check out the barracks and the bars around there, or get a train elsewhere? I have only ever been to Dublin for occasions - footy mainly, and others tend to go for stag / hen do's so apart from getting squiffy and doing temple bar??? Now Belfast I could advise on, love the place, and if you go you must go see the big fish

lynwlt..where abouts is the Irish-Jewish museum, that's not something I've done and I can imagine it would be very interesting.
sammy13...the cat and cage was still there 18 months ago that I know of, although I've never been in it (yet). I tried to google it but got no definitive answer as to whether it's still on the go. Weirdly enough I came across a short video on you tube and one of the people in the background is someone I know from another pub, considering I've only been to Dublin about 10 times for a few days holidays..whats the chances of that....lol

aw, I love Dublin (from what I recall when sober....) which, considering the beer prices, takes some doing nowadays!! probably suggest a trip on the dart down to Malahide beach? just 'cos its pretty and you get to see loads from the train on way down

jewishmuseum.ie/It's only a little place, and seems to be a bit of an embarrassment if you ask locally for directions. That may have something to do with the government's plan to rid Ireland of Jews when Hitler won the war! Temple Bar is fabulous and I can't remember the names of any of the pubs restaurants I visited, but that's probably as it should be. Great Irish restaurant there, serving traditional Irish food. There are lots of stairs in Dublin, and the toilets in pubs are always up or down several flights of them... www.tcd.ie/Library/bookofkells/Also worth a visit, even if just to say you have been.. Train down the coast is fun too, scenery and beaches are lovely, and it's worth it to find a pub that you haven't embarrassed yourself in.

Thanks Pep, I've not been to Malahide.
Lynwlt thanks for link to museum.
Like both of you, I have been in many pubs (think I'm allowed back in them all..lol). I like to spend an afternoon in Temple Bar although I don't go there at night as I'm on my own. I tend to stock to my one or two "locals" where I've made friends. I needed suggestions to keep me out of the pub during the day and that's just what you good people have come up with. Just remembered I've not done the Jamesons Distillery yet either.
