enjay I don't make my own coils . I have the pre-made ones from ft, so its a piece of silica with wire wrapped around it already like what has been linked to. I also have a microcoil that I was sent, to shove cotton wool in. Obv with the premade tingies it is easy, can only do a few at a time, but no prob there, but if I just use that it floods just like it has done all over my battery, if I try to put a top wick in I suck my lungs out. so sorry to sound so stupid but ( I am when it comes to coiling , so imagine you are talking to a 3 year old, I won't be offended, university degrees did not teach me this ) with the pre made ones, when I cut the wick to size I have a piece either end to go in the bin. This is I am not sure what mm, ft pre-mades. If you uncurl it you get many bits, by one piece do you mean once uncurled? Yes, cut a bit of the waste wick to size, then pull it apart horizontally into separate strands. Use just a couple of strands as your flavour wick.

I have just caught up with this thread, but would say that I was getting all sorts of ohmage problems until I took someone's advice and started wiggling not snipping, and haven't had a single problem since. The most difficult bit is feeding in the legs into the atomiser head - winding the coils is the easy bit!! Buy yourself a bit of wick and wire, and you'll be amazed at just how easy it all is! I would suggest using a couple of strands of the excess silica to lay over the top as a flavour wick, as mentioned above!

Perhaps on a bright day I should take pics of it all, so you can see what I have.

By size do you mean fits inside the metal head or hangs over like the wick to the edges? Mine just fell out ???

Just to the diameter of the head, although it shouldn't make much of a difference if it overhangs to the same length of the wick.

So unravel all the silica piece I have cut off from one end ,, take 2 bits, cut it to fit hopefully inside the head plonk them on top of the coil like they just fell out of a plane, add the chimney and good to go??

Well, don't unravel all the cut-off bits of wick - just a 2mm-3mm piece - but otherwise, yeah, do that.

The one I had in half an hour ago, worked perfectly but started gurgling, my ears pricked up, I unscrewed and the battery was flooded, so popped a new one in with a bit of wick and I am sucking real hard now to get anything.

Sucking real hard means summat's blocked. Is your coil centred? Have you only put a couple of single strands across? If your answer to these questions is yes, I declare myself stymied.

Central yes, a couple of strands - that is why I asked what is meant by that cos I don't know it unravels into - well I don't know 6/8 pieces? Or keep it ravelled?

I found using the wire with wicks fit the coil then trim a little longer than the edge and tuck down the side next to the coil stops flooding and no need for flavour wick. Stops the wire from touching the edge and shorting too.

I've just recoiled a Protank head using the same pre-made coils as you, taking care to pay attention, rather than entering my usual coil-building trance, and it seems to work fine with a couple of strands as a flavour-wick. I don't believe I am sucking harder than decent society allows.

What kind of talk is that? No, just use a couple of strands. Maybe three. Too few, it'll gurgle; too many, it'll block. I'm drinking spiced rum and losing all feeling in my legs.

I've just coiled another one without any strands, and, er, it hasn't made any difference.
