I've been a bit mystified with the ohms result when recoiling protank heads. I bought some precoiled wick & wire from FT which are supposed to be 1.8 ohms and every one I've recoiled with these have come out at 2.5 or 2.6 ohms. The ones I bought are these: www.fasttech.com/p/1593911A couple of weeks ago I replaced the old coils with these precoiled ones and when testing the ohms on my itaste vv/vw they were showing up as 2.5 or 2.6 ohms and that was with only putting the base of the protank with coil head on the itaste battery, then when I put the whole protank together and tested the ohms again they were showing as 0.5 ohms or 0.6 ohms or sometimes even as 0.0 ohms and obviously wouldn't work. I got rather frustrated with it all and just shoved the 5 coil heads I'd done in a bag and left them alone. Anyway today I thought I'd have another go, took the coil heads out of the bag just to test the ohms again and they were showing 1.8 or 1.9 ohms which is correct this time, all except for one coil which was having a problem at 0.5 or 0.6 ohms, so I took that one apart and replaced with a new precoiled wick & wire and once again this new one is showing up as 2.5 or 2.6 ohms. Before I built this one today I watched 2 Youtube videos to make sure that I have been doing everything correctly, and I was, so how come all my coils are showing up as 2.5/2.6 ohms after I've recoiled the heads ??? And then if I leave this one for a couple of weeks it could possibly show up as 1.8 ohms like the others Anyone enlighten me on this

I had to unwind one or two wraps to get them about right, the ohms thing is the tails of the coil, you need to really make sure they're not hitting the housing when you screw them in. Got to nip them really tight in at the seal.
I suspect maybe something has happened to the ends of the wire over time to stop them shorting like a bit of corrosion or the like.

If your getting a short, 0.0, then check the coil legs where they were snapped off. There is very little clearance inside a protank base and if the coil legs are snipped off rather than wiggled off its easy to get a short.
If you've got an old Evod base test the coil in that, much more clearance in an Evod base.

You mean when I cut the wire ends off, got to make sure there's nothing sticking out? I thought I'd cut them as close as possible, just looked at 4 of them, all but one are as close as can be, only one can I actually feel a little bit of wire sticking out just slightly. Maybe unwinding the coils once or twice will lower those ohms then. Will try that next time I do one.

Don't have an evod base. Oh & by the way, I've been putting these in the mini protank whether that makes any difference or not

Yes toots that's what I mean. When I first starting coiling protanks I left those tails just a little to long snipping. Wiggled them off and no issues after that. If you've checked and there flush then it must be something else. I was referring to the shorts not the high resistance, for that as said you'll need to take a wrap or two off.

Ok, I'll try wiggling them off next time - I can see me being there all day wiggling wire ends

Apply a little tension to the leg as your wiggling it.

toots wiggling the tails off rather than cutting them off is done by twisting/winding them until it breaks off, have a look on super shinys guide for microcoils it tells you about wiggling the legs off to avoid shorts.

Would do it now but we're going out for dinner at 6 o'clock so have got to get ready for that. I'll report back to let you know how my 'wiggling' goes And thanks guys for your help, it's been bugging me for 2 weeks now.

I will read this in full tomo, I have been out and about since 6.30am, but just wanted to say toots, I got some wick/wires around the same time as you, I can only do 5 or so at once, but they read between 1.5 and 1.6, ( I bought 1.8 ) some just taste really burnt though from the start, and I can not get the top wick right at all, without it leaks which you may not have as I know you use vg heavy, with it sucking my lungs out???
