This is a bit blatant, but I was lucky enough to be in the crowd for the first session of O'Sullivan v Selby this afternoon and it was amazing. I have watched Snooker on TV for the last 25 odd years, but this was the first time I had been to a match and what a place to start. Getting to see my snooker hero score a century in a World Championship and win the session was the icing on an already lovely cake. Hopefully Ronnie will go on to win tomorrow, but Selby looks like a beaten man, so I think I'll end tomorrow in a good mood. If you are a fan of the sport you need to go and see a session of play at The Crucible. The atmosphere was every bit as good as I had expected from watching from afar for all those years and more. The hype about The Crucible is entirely deserved, I'm still buzzing nearly four hours after the session ended Best Xmas pressie ever! OK equal best with a Bruce Springsteen ticket last year, but that was a pressie from me to me. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

What made me say that Selby looked like a beaten man? How he escaped those sessions only 10-7 behind, I don't know!

I remember going to see snooker and smoking in the hall. The players enjoyed a beer or six as well. Such professionalism. Do you play BrenD ?

I used to play pool to a semi-decent standard and won more league games than I lost, but I'm terrible at snooker! Improving my game will be a project if I ever get to retire or win the lottery Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

I played 4+ hours a day as a teenager. Absorbing for the right obsessive personality types.

As a spectator I love the mental side of it. I don't think there is much difference in ability between most of the pros, but especially in a tournament like the Worlds with longer matches, the mentally strongest do well. Selby was pretty poor in the first session and below par in the second, but he scrapped his way to seven frames when a weaker player would have panicked and been all but out of it by now. Fascinating stuff. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

I jinxed Ronnie I'm still making my way back from Sheffield and at this rate it'll be over by the time I get back. If only my phone signal was good enough to watch rather thanks having to rely on the BBC text updates. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards
