Am I missing something here? You do not have a TV in the property at all? You do however have a computer, this means you are capable of watching TV progs on a very large screen. Whether you choose to or not should not be the issue, you have the means. If you buy a gym membership but never go you can not ask for a refund, it was your choice not to use the service.

You are missing the point! gone are the days when just having a tv meant you needed licence. I can have large lcd tv's in every room of house but if I do not use them to watch tv as it is being broadcast I do not need a TV Licence, but can watch catch up or dvds etc

First you don't have to prove it, they have to prove you are & you do not have to let them inside property Second no ariel or sat dish outside would be enough

I agree that the tv license is a nuisance - that bbc should get adverts and be free - however is all the stress and hassle about £ 12 a month worth it ? in Austria it's actually even more expensive - we live in the 21st century - we need to pay for certain things - some necessary - some not - I certainly would not risk a court case for that - proving that I really don't have a tv or anything that could be classified as a tv - and that ..................

Advice to anyone if capita (tv licence enforcers) turn up at your door, grab a camera or phone & inform them you are filming meeting for your safety & future reference (which you are legally allowed to do) they run a mile it is quite amusing (go to you tube & put in search for tv licence inspectors ) to watch them turn tail & leave yet disturbing why they don't want to be filmed

I'm with you, it really isn't worth the stress, but I am surprised to learn that you can scam it just by saying you don't use it

I have no issue with helping to pay for the BBC. I'd almost be happy to pay for a license even though I have no need for one. I like the fact that they don't use commercials to pay for their programming. What I really object to is the tactics used by subcontracted bully boy Privateers who have only one agenda... to increase their profits by collecting fees by any means they can, including harrassment, prosecution, door to door questioning etc. In the end, those of you who DO pay the license are also paying for their mistakes, when the BBC has to settle cases of harrassment brought against them because of their contractor's negligence. They are NOT the BBC and are NOT interested in your rights, nor in protecting a good old British tradition of broadcasting. I'm quite amazed to see this classified by someone as a "tin foil hat" issue.... but that's maybe a discussion for another day

I have a TV licence and Sky. We've talked about it on many occasions that the only live TV that gets watched is my daughter watching Disney Junior. Once she is older we probably will get rid of sky and the TV licence and just watch everything on catch up. We already have the TV connected to the PC so we can watch stuff on the big telly. It really wouldn't be a massive inconvenience to lose live TV.

IMO the licence fee is just another bill that needs paid, same as taxes, car insurance, rates, rent etc, the BBC makes lots of good programmes, it's by no means perfect but it is a great institution and as such it needs funded, if everyone just paid the fee then the BBC wouldn't need to employ private contractors to find the people who don't pay !that's my tuppence worth, lol
