You can sit watching tv and just put your fingers on and off the guitar so your fingers learn the shapes, you build up muscle memory which makes chords a lot easier. Been tinkering myself over the years, here's some of my crap soundcloud.com/twidler

Heres my beauties Ibanez js1000 ( satriani signature series) Wanted to get one of these when they where released but costing the best part of £2k it wasnt gonna happen anytime soon. Snapped this one up on ebay for a measly £350 a few years ago. It was cheap because the neck had cracked and been repaired. A good job was done of it and i can guarantee if they neck was to break again it wouldnt be in the same place. Secondly my Epiphone Les Paul standard ( tobacco burst) It was a guitar i fell in love with nearly 20 years ago when i tried one out in my local guitar repair shop. Being only young i couldnt afford the £400 asking price and wasnt until my old Nan passed away and left me £200 it was the first thing i knew i should get with her gift as i knew i would always keep it and cherish it and i think of my Nan every-time i get this out.

apostle51 what pickups do you have in the Ibanez? Been looking at the new 24 fret version but not sure if I like it yet. Either that or a PRS custom 24 is next on the wish list. Won't be anytime soon though but no harm in dreaming

In my day you bought a guitar and Bert Weedon's "Play in a Day" and the next day you were doing your first gig - can't see what the problem is

Looks like it has a broken string now: To me it looks like Brian Mlay but our local guitar shop said it's deffo Brian May ??? That guitar does have some history to it Super-Shiny.......It was, in actual fact, owned by a local lush, who went by the name of Bonnie Riley (that is her signature on the guitar).............she used to tour the local pubs in & around the Littlehampton area........she never played in any, but would sit outside & drunkenly bang out indeciphable chords, whilst warbling incoherently to every passer by, busking for cider money............her playing & singing were so terrible unfortunately, that she was forced to offer up the guitar on e-bay, in order to further fuel her cider habit........before doing so, however, she scribbled her monacle on it & tried to pass it off as Brian May's first ever stringed instrument, having realised that her name bore a remarkable resemblance to his........Thankfully, Mr. May saw it advertised, contacted the powers to be & Bonnie was locked up......History has it, that the guitar disappeared without trace, believed stolen by some unscrupulous crime syndicate & that they held on to it until they managed to find some mug to flog it to for silly money................ I guess you know the rest..................... P.S........I'll give you 5ml of Vapeknobs 2mg Larks Vomit juice for it & believe me, you won't get a better offer..........

Sorry just catching up as I've been over on Justin's website, well you did point me there Some posh guitars on display there, I'm happy to plod on with my cheapo acoustic for now, ah pulp common people looks like an achievable target with just 3 chords. I learn the 3 chords this week with a target of playing the song in some form by next weekend. Not sure if that's a poor or ambitious target but I guess only time will tell. Now maybe I need Justin's songbook

I don't play the guitar or any other instrument - but as a student and young adult I sang 8 years in an opera choire - so I am not totally alien to music - and at one time in life I want to learn the violin - I would go with a personal tutor - try gumtree - or put an add in the local supermarket - I don't think there are better instructions than some one face to face who will tell you the basics and correct you right from the beginning before you got used to things you actually should not do

Funny thing is now i struggle to lose that blues influence, not that its a bad thing i just hear a blues riff at the end of everything.lol.
