You can sit watching tv and just put your fingers on and off the guitar so your fingers learn the shapes, you build up muscle memory which makes chords a lot easier. Been tinkering myself over the years, here's some of my crap soundcloud.com/twidlerWow loving acoustic new enjay Cheers man There's a lot of three chord songs around that can be good for learning, some U2 stuff or that.

When I was 14, I had a proper Gibson SG shaped full sized electric guitar (I think it was £7.99 in Woolworths RIP) and I was also obsessed about smoke bombs, so thought it would look cool if I put a smoke bomb under the guitar & take photos. When it caught fire, I gave up playing the guitar for a few years. I took up the drumkit when I was 16, was in an infamous punk band in Bristol (nearly got a record deal too) & was regularly nearly killed every time we played due to the bigger, nastier punks & skinheads that thought it was fun to throw the entire bar stock of pint glasses at us lol Ahhhh - fun times in hindsight

Sorry just catching up as I've been over on Justin's website, well you did point me there Some posh guitars on display there, I'm happy to plod on with my cheapo acoustic for now, ah pulp common people looks like an achievable target with just 3 chords. I learn the 3 chords this week with a target of playing the song in some form by next weekend. Not sure if that's a poor or ambitious target but I guess only time will tell. Now maybe I need Justin's songbook That's a great target, just take your time, don't rush it and don't give up when it gets frustrating (it will sometimes), make as much noise as you can and take great pleasure in it when people complain about it and your half way to being a rockstar. And with the right 3 chords you can play the status quo tune - same one every time they just change the words, throw in an occasional fourth chord and you've got the whole ac/dc catalogue, then add a minor pentetonic scale and you've got basically all rock and roll from the 50s to present day. There are lots of free sites for beginner tutorials, just search around and find what works for you. A lot of the best have had no formal training so your in good company

My early guitars were cheapy jobs but I figured after more than 25 years of plonking away I could do better lol.
Got the Jackson SL3 soloist, some mix and match and a lag summer acoustic then a couple of amps, peavey classic 50 2X12 and a little blackstar HT5R combo.

The black star is a great sounding amp and Jackson's are always great. I bought a line 6 amp last year, fun to play with but the modeling isn't as good as it could be. Mostly I just use my iPod and amplitude with headphones these days, annoying the neighbours seems more hassle than it's worth as I get older

I found the hardest part of learning guitar was changing chords, A to C to D, took me months to learn. I still have the first guitar i ever bought 30 odd years ago (yamaha accoustic) I always wanted a Fender P bass but prices are silly and Yamaha really do make some lovely sounding instruments.Switched to Bass a few years ago as I prefer it

I bought a freshman semi acoustic about a year ago. It's still in the gig bag along with the instructional books and dvds. Just never had time to learn to play. I will some day.
