Ok I know I'm pushing it a bit now, Who the F do I think i am, right !!   Newbies suggesting forum upgrades, whatever next.  Tease-smiley

Is it possible for us to have a wee chat room? or even just a shout box?

I'm used to a shoutbox style thing on link where i am a member and it is extremely useful. 

People arrange meets, shout "you got mail" or just an easy way to quickly get the attention of someone to help.  Not eactly a chat room though, but it serves it's purpose.

I was only thinking, a good few of us seem to either work from home, work in offices with access to the interweb thingie and slack off all day posting on forums lol or are stay at home parents or OAP.s retired folks AND it would be easy to pass quick messages about rather than clogging up threads or pm boxes.

Just gimmi a slap if you think it's stupid mod's

Its been discussed a few times before and the general opinion is that having a chat room would take information away from being posted on the forum. It may start out as being for a laugh and joke but soon everyone will just be putting their questions into it for an instant answer instead of creating a thread where info is stored for all to see

It wasn't a stupid idea, and on some forums it can be good.

It's just that this forum is mainly a repository of information that can be accessed by anyone over time, and a lot of useful information could be lost if in 'chat' only.

Perhaps for the 'Lounge' it could work but i still like to see the posts from the past.

ruffdog as Raffles has said, it's not a stupid idea but he & Steve (VapeStorm) are spot on with the reasons for why I haven't added either a shoutbox or chat room to the forum

I think it would be a great idea. Chat room rules could be imposed so that only general vape chitter chatter was allowed, although I don't know how that would be implemented. I used to be on a mobile phone based forum and the chat room was well used. Mostly people would post threads and then go to the chat room and put a link up for further help or input as opposed to seeking outright answers in the chat room. I think that was because users knew they could refer back to a thread.

I among others used to do a quiz every couple of weeks in the chat room aswell that proved quite popular. I would offer a prize up or other users would offer one up.

I had my account closed on a certain other vaping forum, because I didn't participate on the chat................& the reason I didn't participate, was because nothing was ever vaping related & I found the whole idea uncomfortable & felt I was an outsider...& those that know me on here will know that it would take a lot to make me feel uncomfortable.....Nothing was ever posted on the forum itself, because everyone was in the chat room...........Need I add more?

Ain't read all the posts but..............

Chat rooms can be good for a quick fix for helping a person but does not help others who have the same problem and need the info that resolved theirs.

I see what people are saying re the chat room v forum but it seems some of the fantastic forum posters would still be more inclined to post on the forums so it's unlikely the forum would suffer if that is the case. I'm often up at silly o'clock and personally I'd love a chat room where it's more likely I could pop in and just talk rubbish.

This forum is undoubtedly the best vape related forum I've had a look at and I'm not saying that just because I'm here. If you went over to "the other one" I'm JJay there I have a grand total of one post, my introduction. The place just didn't appeal to me. This place however instantly appealed. The way people posted just seemed, different, more comfortable.

Nothing at all is lacking here but as a trial thing, well it's just an idea.
