Smaller surface area and the same amount of gunk, makes sense.

I've had my current coil in for at least 4 months but I am on home made menthol 50/50. A cotton wick lasts in excess of 3 weeks. I little while ago i tried some old fruit flavoured juices and the coil gunked up in a couple of days, I was surprised how fast it happened too.

I agree that it's very dependant on juice type - vanilla custard used to gunk up my coils within days but now I'm using Absinthe I go a couple of weeks before dry burning. Even then there's hardly any gunk to speak of. As for the overall life of a microcoil, the one I'm using right now has been going a couple of months so far and is fine.

It's definitely juice dependant with regards to how often you'll need to dry burn and rewick, but the coil itself will last a lot longer.
I get around 3 tanks of red astaire before I need to change the cotton, but custard needs a new wick after each tank.
a couple of factors affect how long the coil will last though.
wire used (thicker wire tends to last longer), resistance attained(lower resistance burns hotter thus giving less life), size of coil(larger coils seem to last longer than smaller coils), amount of power pushed through.
I've also found that long slow draws will make a coil last longer than if you were to use short harsh pulls..

I guess there are lots of factor to consider I am playing with wicks at present and one of my tanks that I wicked yesterday, the coil looks fine...that is a different juice to the one I was originally posting about, exactly the same ohms of 1.9ish at 7.5watts. So it's the juice me thinks, I think I am also recognising when the coil is bunking based on the draw and vapour produced...all in the name of good fun

@mrsmac247i I am so glad you say your juice gets darker as it gets lower in the tank. I notice the same, especially when running low in the iclears. maybe because the tank gets warm a bit whilst vaping, the e-juice is almost super fast steeping inside the tank. hence turning darker. Well I just though of that and probably totally wrong but hey ho. I'm over 3 weeks stinkie free and I'm loving it.
